In recent years, due to the rapid development of the fourth industrial revolution and new platforms of information technologies, intelligent systems have received widespread attention in many industries and have brought the potential to improve the efficiency of the construction industry. These facts led to the appearance of a new concept in construction industry called Construction 4.0. Therefore, this article seeks to explore the state of implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies in the construction industry and analyze their impact on the formation of the Construction 4.0 concept. In order to achieve the aim of this article, a literature review was conducted using the most relevant publication in this field. Moreover, authors carried out a bibliometric analysis among 195 selected research articles related to the Industry 4.0 and Construction 4.0 to identify interconnections between these concepts. The results show that Industry 4.0 has the greatest impact on productivity growth in construction and that interest in digital technologies is growing every year, but their penetration into the construction industry is currently slow and limited. The authors suggest that further research needs to be focused on future ethical issues that may arise and on synergies between Construction 4.0 technologies.

The cost of producing one cubic meter of concrete structure, depending on the structure’s shape, type, and complexity, can be variously high. The cost of concrete, reinforcement, formwork, and labor ratio varies. But unlike the cost of concrete and reinforcement, which tend to be similar in the terms of the conditions of a particular construction project, the cost of formwork and work with it are different for different contractors. It often depends on the appropriateness of the formwork system used, the optimal placement of the formwork sets, the minimization of downtime, and the efficiency of the carpenters’ work. Formwork modeling in the construction preparation phase intervenes in this planning area, where construction sources are defined and quantified, and the time course of their deployment is determined. The current paper deals with optimizing formwork selection and deployment in concrete structure execution. Even if several requirements must be considered when selecting and modeling the formwork (e.g., construction time, quality of concrete structure, etc.), an effort to minimize the cost of formwork, and thus construction cost, plays the most significant role. A dynamic model for effective and optimal planning of formwork in construction projects, including formwork cost analysis, is presented in the paper. The included case study demonstrated the planning of the formwork through a software application developed based on the computational algorithm of the dynamic model presented. A case study is presented in the article as a research method. An office building with five above-ground floors and one underground floor was chosen for the case study. To solve the case study, the formwork for horizontal structures (i.e., beams and slabs) is considered. The goal of the case study is to identify research questions and apply time and cost optimization to a selected specific building.

The aim of the paper is to emphasize the need for logistics planning in prefabricated construction in Slovakia. A construction contractor can achieve profit and efficiency of a construction project through well-managed resource logistics. Moreover, it helps to ensure the competitiveness of prefabricated construction compared to traditional on-site construction. In the case study of a wood-based family house, the construction cost and the transport cost are analysed in relation to available logistics chains Three variants of wood-based construction systems are adopted in the study: the column-beam construction system, the construction system based on Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) and the panel construction system. The results of the study found that the transport cost does not represent a large share of the total construction cost of the wood-based family house. This applies to all three variants of the construction system. A well-planned logistics of resources - people, materials, machines - can help to achieve an efficient and rational construction cost and construction time of a project. Thus, a client of a wood-based prefabricated building does not have to worry that the transport cost related to the transport of large, prefabricated components will make the construction of the building markedly more expensive.

In logistics systems, the use of methods, approaches, and management procedures with the aim of optimizing all activities has increasingly been promoted. In the case studies, the logistics of the concrete construction work during the implementation of concrete frame structures of residential building projects is analyzed. The examination of the logistics of concrete construction work was carried out using a combination of monitoring, measurement, comparison, and modeling methods. In addition to obtaining real data on the mentioned logistics of concrete construction work, by applying the Just in Time method, as one of the methods of lean logistics, the optimal logistics of ready‐mix concrete transport to construction sites was simulated. In order to reveal the most significant wastages during concrete construction work, the essential parameters of real logistics were compared with the parameters of simulated optimal logistics of ready‐mix concrete transport. The goal of the research is to evaluate the intensity of the application of logistics and its elements in the implementation of construction and to point out the importance of the involvement of lean production methods and thus also lean logistics in the construction industry. Based on this study results from construction projects in Slovakia and also based on the experience of the authors of this work, it can be concluded that the use of logistic management in the supply of the main construction material in the production of monolithic concrete structures is poor, and this causes a lot of unnecessary waste, having an adverse effect not only on the construction time, but also on the management of individual construction resources. It has been proven that investment in planning and management of logistics can lead to increased overall efficiency of the construction and can bring profit in the form of system, synchronization of construction process resources.
