Emanuel Carrilho is a chemist (1987) with a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (USP) at São Carlos, Brazil (1990). He obtained his Ph.D. at Northeastern University, Boston, Ma (1997), and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University in the Whitesides’ group (2007-2009). Since 2013, Carrilho is full-time professor at the São Carlos Institute of Chemistry, USP. Carrilho’s group has been working on the development of new bioanalytical methods covering the broad aspects of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics for human health, and applied microbiology in the search for cancer biomarkers and neglected tropical diseases. Recently, BioMicS Group has been developing microfluidic applications for low-cost diagnostics for developing countries using paper-based analytical devices (mPADs) and developing new ultrasensitive contactless conductivity detection.
