Dr. Ian Frigaard received his B.Sc. from the
University of Wales in 1989 and his M.Sc. from the University of Oxford in
1990. He then remained at Oxford to work with Oliver Jacobs on his Ph.D. (1993)
in mathematical modeling of an aluminum spray process. He subsequently took a
postdoctoral position (1993-1995) in the Industrial Mathematics Department at
the Johannes Kepler Universität before joining Schlumberger Oilfield Services
from 1995-2000. In 2000, he relocated to Canada to take an academic position at
the University of British Columbia where he currently serves as Professor of
Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. He serves on the editorial boards of
four archival journals, and in 2016, took over as Executive Editor of the
Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics (JNNFM).
