We present a single-frequency, single-mode, plane-polarized ytterbium-doped all-fiber master oscillator power amplifier source at 1060 nm generating 264 W of continuous-wave output power. The final-stage amplifier operated with a high gain of 19 dB and a high conversion efficiency of 68%. There was no evidence of rollover from stimulated Brillouin scattering even at the highest output power, and the maximum output was limited only by the available pump power.
We report on a novel scheme to fabricate a simple, cheap, and compact tunable fiber laser. The tuning is realized by splicing a piece of single-mode fiber to one end of an active double-clad fiber, while the other end of the single-mode fiber is spliced to a 15 mm long section of 105/125 multimode fiber. The fluorescence signal entering into the multimode fiber will be reproduced as single images at periodic intervals along the propagation direction of the fiber. The length of the multimode fiber is chosen to be slightly shorter than the first re-imaging point, such that the signal coming out from the single mode fiber is obtained in free space, where a broadband mirror retroreflects the fluorescence signal. Since the position of the re-imaging point is wavelength dependent, different wavelengths will be imaged at different positions. Therefore, wavelength tuning is easily obtained by adjusting the distance between the broadband mirror and the multimode fiber facet end. Using this principle, the tunable fiber laser revealed a tunability of 8 nm, ranging from 1088–1097 nm, and an output power of 500 mW. The simplicity of the setup makes this a very cost-effective tunable fiber laser.
We demonstrate a continuous-wave (CW) single-frequency narrow-linewidth laser at 1552 nm with an output power of 83 W using a master-oscillator power amplifier configuration. A seed from an all-fiber distributed feedback-laser with a linewidth of 13 kHz was polarization scrambled and boosted through a chain of amplifiers in an all-fiber configuration. The last amplification stage consisted of a highly efficient cladding-pumped large-core erbium-ytterbium co-doped fiber which helped increase nonlinear thresholds.
A tunable cladding-pumped ytterbium-doped fibre laser is presented. An air-clad inner cladding supported by a micro-structured silica mesh inside a silica jacket is used. A measured inner-cladding NA of 0.4 to 0.5 enables efficient pump launch into a 36 µm-diameter inner cladding. The small inner cladding area enables tuning from 1010 to 1120 nm.
We demonstrate a cladding-pumped single-mode plane-polarized ytterbium-doped fiber laser generating of continuous-wave output power at with 67% slope efficiency and a polarization extinction ratio better than . The laser is end pumped through both fiber ends and shows no evidence of roll-over, even at the highest output power, which is limited only by the available pump power.
