Dr. Achilli’s current research deals with the investigation of structural, morphological and electro-optical properties of semiconductors (III-V and IV-group) and oxides for high efficiency solar cells. Her interest in structural investigation of matter began during her Master’s thesis in Chemistry at the University of Pavia. This brought her into contact with Crystallography and X-ray analysis. She was also admitted to the school of merit IUSS where she disserted a thesis concerning solid state chemistry. Afterwards, she took up a Ph.D. focused on operando-XAS (X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy) for the investigation of photo-electrocatalytic reactions of increasing interest in energetics and environmental science. The experimental part was carried out at the ESRF synchrotron in Grenoble and the data analysis at the University of Pavia. Eager to deepen her studies in the field of Renewable Energies, she accepted a two years PostDoc in collaboration with RSE where, in May 2020, she became Permanent Scientist.
