Gonçalo was born in Portalegre, Portugal, in 1987. He graduated in environmental and renewable energy engineering and received his MSc Degree in 2013, with a thesis on the mapping of biomass energy potential in Alentejo, a region of Portugal. Gonçalo was working from 2013 to 2015 on several issues related with alternative energy sources, such as the use of biomass residues, novel technologies for biodiesel production, and electrolytic hydrogen production. In the end of 2015, Gonçalo started his PhD in the area of environmental engineering with the aim of developing novel biological and electrochemical technologies for the treatment of agroindustrial wastewaters.
