Edward Wylegala is a full professor of medicine. Currently, he is the Head and Chair of the Ophthalmology Clinic and the Vice-Rector for Development and Technology Transfer at the Medical University of Silesia, as well as a Visiting Professor at Hebei Provincial Eye Hospital, Xingtai, China. He is a member of numerous scientific societies both in Poland and abroad and has received many awards, including the Knight’s Cross and Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. He is renowned as a pioneer in diagnostic and therapeutic methods in ophthalmology, and his achievements in the field of eye microsurgery have been honored with an award from the Minister of Health of Poland.
