This study investigates the new surface development on AA6061 and AA5086 alloys considering the wire-arc additive manufacturing technique as a direct energy deposition (DED) process of wire. Two different quantities of MWCNTs, i.e., 0.01 (low) and 0.02 (high) g, with a constant nickel (Ni) weight (0.2 g) were pre-placed in the created square patterns. ER4043 filler was used as a wire for additive deposition, and an arc was generated through a tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding source. Furthermore, hardness and pin-on-disk wear-testing methods were employed to measure the changes at the surfaces with the abovementioned inducements. This work was designed to illustrate the hardness and the offered wear resistance in terms of mass loss of the AA6061 and AA5086 aluminum alloys with the function of nano-inducements. Two sliding distance values of 500 m and 600 m were selected for the wear analysis of mass loss from tracks. A maximum increase in hardness for AA6061 and AA5086 alloys was observed in the experiments, with average values of 70.76 HRB and 74.86 HRB, respectively, at a high mass content of MWCNTs. Moreover, the tribological performance of the modified surfaces improved with the addition of MWCNTs with Ni particles in a broader sense; the modified surfaces performed exceptionally well for AA5086 compared to AA6061 with 0.02 and 0.01 g additions, respectively. The system reported a maximum of 38.46% improvement in mass loss for the AA5086 alloy with 0.02 g of MWCNTs. Moreover, the morphological analysis of the developed wear tracks and the mechanism involved was carried out using scanning electron microscope (SEM) images.

To maintain safety and reliability in power plants, creep-life prediction models have received much attention over the years. This article was designed to focus on the conditions when a material structure is exposed to extremely high temperatures and pressures with the help of finite element analysis. A direct comparison of the feasibility of different models’ fitness and suitability in predicting creep damage was presented in this article by simulating the damage evolution of a uniaxial SS-304 specimen under a pre-defined load, using established constitutive creep models. Comparative assessments of minimum creep strain rate, creep deformation, and stress rupture were demonstrated using the Norton–Bailey (NB), Kachanov–Rabotnov (KR), Theta projection (TP), and sine-hyperbolic (SH) models while standardizing them with the Omega model. The FE results of a dog-bone specimen, while implementing the models, were compared with the actual creep experiment results to check for the models’ reliability and validation. Subsequently, sensitivity studies of the established creep models were conducted using the statistical tools RSM and ANOVA, with an analysis of how the parameters for operation, design, and material dependency came into effect. Thus, quantitative and qualitative correlation analyses of the FE creep response for these five established models were conducted together, resulting in finalizing the selection of the most suitable model, the sine-hyperbolic model, for the SS-304 material under the defined boundary conditions. The 0.84 R2 value of the sine-hyperbolic model proved the model’s selection for predicting the creep response of stainless steel 304. The method can be applied to select a suitable creep damage model as per the feasibility of the operating conditions.

Rebar steel is used for reinforcement to aid concrete because concrete does not sustain tension. Thermomechanical treatment is an advanced manufacturing technique for rebar production, but rusting problems emerged in the local steel industry. Raw material sampling included ingot casting (IC) and continuous casting (CC). IC samples corroded more frequently than CC samples. Spectroscopy indicated a small amount of chromium and an improper ratio of manganese to sulfur in IC samples. The improper ratio of manganese to sulfur in IC samples promoted hot cracking at grain boundaries, which resulted in intergranular corrosion. The microstructural results of G40 (air cooled) and G60 (water cooled) showed ferrite and martensite in different proportions. The deformed ferrite in G60 indicated inclination to corrosion, and no proper stable layer of martensite was found. The percentage of martensite was not enough to retaliate against intergranular corrosion. Highly pressurized water initiated pitting corrosion due to the formation of small pits on the surface. Tensile testing revealed 10% reduction in ultimate strength, 8% reduction in yield strength, and 30% reduction in percentage of elongation of corroded samples. Environmental study revealed that the humidity level in the industry was greater than in the laboratory space. High values of SO x and NO x emission revealed the involvement of the environment in the deterioration of the product surface.

This study discusses the effectual variable parameters of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and titanium oxide (MWCNT–TiO2) contents and welding current in obtaining a response on mechanical behavior. The experimental work involved three levels of both parameters, which included 1, 1.5, and 2 wt.% of MWCNTs–TiO2 and 160, 180, and 200 A of current by forming a full design that represented a 32 (3 k) factorial model. The results of an analysis of variance (ANOVA) were critically employed to assess the variation between the variables and within their levels for approaching the significant combination of parameters. The joints welded with MWCNT–TiO2-coated fillers tendered a significant reduction in grain size (GS) along with high values of tensile strength (TS). From the ANOVA, it was determined that both the investigated parameters and their combined effect created a significant response for GS reduction and increment in TS. The presented empirical regression quadratic model was validated for the adequacy of the projected results that were shown to be acceptable with the experimental investigated data. In addition, the desirability function approach was applied for a multiple response optimization in yielding the desired responses of GS and TS and simultaneously providing an optimized set of process parameters. Thus, the function declared 1.5 wt.% MWCNT–TiO2 and 180 A as the optimized process set for delivering the maximum TS at the designated range of GS for this system.
