Fog computing (FC) is an evolving computing technology that operates in a distributed environment. FC aims to bring cloud computing features close to edge devices. The approach is expected to fulfill the minimum latency requirement for healthcare Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices. Healthcare IoT devices generate various volumes of healthcare data. This large volume of data results in high data traffic that causes network congestion and high latency. An increase in round-trip time delay owing to large data transmission and large hop counts between IoTs and cloud servers render healthcare data meaningless and inadequate for end-users. Time-sensitive healthcare applications require real-time data. Traditional cloud servers cannot fulfill the minimum latency demands of healthcare IoT devices and end-users. Therefore, communication latency, computation latency, and network latency must be reduced for IoT data transmission. FC affords the storage, processing, and analysis of data from cloud computing to a network edge to reduce high latency. A novel solution for the abovementioned problem is proposed herein. It includes an analytical model and a hybrid fuzzy-based reinforcement learning algorithm in an FC environment. The aim is to reduce high latency among healthcare IoTs, end-users, and cloud servers. The proposed intelligent FC analytical model and algorithm use a fuzzy inference system combined with reinforcement learning and neural network evolution strategies for data packet allocation and selection in an IoT–FC environment. The approach is tested on simulators iFogSim (Net-Beans) and Spyder (Python). The obtained results indicated the better performance of the proposed approach compared with existing methods.

Ensemble multifeatured deep learning methodology has emerged as a powerful approach to overcome the limitations of single deep learning models in terms of generalization, robustness, and performance. This survey provides an extended review of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models, and their applications, challenges, and future directions. We explore potential applications of these models across various domains, including computer vision, medical imaging, natural language processing, and speech recognition. By combining the strengths of multiple models and features, ensemble multifeatured deep learning models have demonstrated improved performance and adaptability in diverse problem settings. We also discuss the challenges associated with these models, such as model interpretability, computational complexity, ensemble model selection, adversarial robustness, and personalized and federated learning. This survey highlights recent advancements in addressing these challenges and emphasizes the importance of continued research in tackling these issues to enable widespread adoption of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models. It provides an outlook on future research directions, focusing on the development of new algorithms, frameworks, and hardware architectures that can efficiently handle the large-scale computations required by these models. Moreover, it underlines the need for a better understanding of the trade-offs between model complexity, accuracy, and computational resources to optimize the design and deployment of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models.

Systems for monitoring air quality are essential for reducing the negative consequences of air pollution, but creating real-time systems encounters several challenges. The accuracy and effectiveness of these systems can be greatly improved by integrating federated learning and multi-access edge computing (MEC) technology. This paper critically reviews the state-of-the-art methodologies for federated learning and MEC-enabled air quality monitoring systems. It discusses the immense benefits of federated learning, including privacy-preserving model training, and MEC, such as reduced latency and improved response times, for air quality monitoring applications. Additionally, it highlights the challenges and requirements for developing and implementing real-time air quality monitoring systems, such as data quality, security, and privacy, as well as the need for interpretable and explainable AI-powered models. By leveraging such advanced techniques and technologies, air monitoring systems can overcome various challenges and deliver accurate, reliable, and timely air quality predictions. Moreover, this article provides an in-depth analysis and assessment of the state-of-the-art techniques and emphasizes the need for further research to develop more practical and affordable AI-powered decentralized systems with improved performance and data quality and security while ensuring the ethical and responsible use of the data to support informed decision making and promote sustainability.

The prevalence of skin diseases has increased dramatically in recent decades, and they are now considered major chronic diseases globally. People suffer from a broad spectrum of skin diseases, whereas skin tumors are potentially aggressive and life-threatening. However, the severity of skin tumors can be managed (by treatment) if diagnosed early. Health practitioners usually apply manual or computer vision-based tools for skin tumor diagnosis, which may cause misinterpretation of the disease and lead to a longer analysis time. However, cutting-edge technologies such as deep learning using the federated machine learning approach have enabled health practitioners (dermatologists) in diagnosing the type and severity level of skin diseases. Therefore, this study proposes an adaptive federated machine learning-based skin disease model (using an adaptive ensemble convolutional neural network as the core classifier) in a step toward an intelligent dermoscopy device for dermatologists. The proposed federated machine learning-based architecture consists of intelligent local edges (dermoscopy) and a global point (server). The proposed architecture can diagnose the type of disease and continuously improve its accuracy. Experiments were carried out in a simulated environment using the International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC) 2019 dataset (dermoscopy images) to test and validate the model’s classification accuracy and adaptability. In the future, this study may lead to the development of a federated machine learning-based (hardware) dermoscopy device to assist dermatologists in skin tumor diagnosis.

Secure communication is the top concern of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). The trust between nodes can have a considerable impact on ensuring IoV security. Therefore, the trustworthiness of a received message must be evaluated before acting upon it. A malicious node can broadcast bogus events to obtain network control. False reports and malicious vehicles render the network unreliable during emergencies. In this study, a unique trust framework is presented that considers most of the aspects of trust in IoV to accurately identify malicious nodes and events. Previous studies have proposed some trust models for VANETs, which have many deficiencies in serving IoV. In particular, they lack dynamism and practical implementations. All the existing models have two things in common, first they work on fixed parameters, and second, they use static scenarios. In contrast, the proposed framework is based on a context-awareness cognitive approach with artificial intelligence (AI) properties. The framework cognitively learns the environment from the received report and creates a context around an event. In addition to trust management (TM), the proposed framework offers a novel process for detecting and screening malicious nodes using anomaly outliers. The performance of the framework was examined using an experimental simulation. The proposed framework was compared with top benchmarks in the field. The results show inclining performance indicators. The proposed trust-management framework has the potential to serve as a component of IoV security.
