Maria Isabel Domingues Fernandes is a Coordinating Professor at the Nursing School of Coimbra and researcher of the Health Sciences Research Unit: Nursing. Specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Ph.D. in Education – Didactics, University of Aveiro (2010). She acquired scientific knowledge and advanced skills for the study, research, and development of the following domains: clinical supervision; intensive care nursing; and promotion of healthy intimate relationships. During her professional career, she contributed toward the critical reflection on the state of the art and professional practice in the health area, namely in the leadership and coordination of master’s degrees and specialization degrees in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Involved in projects as researcher, teacher, or coordinator of these projects and, consequently, of groups of teachers and/or researchers. She is also a member of professional societies - Ordem dos Enfermeiros Portugueses; Sociedade Portuguesa de Cuidados Intensivos; Chapter Phi Xi – Sigma Theta Tau International.
