Prof George J Chirima is a faculty member of the Agricultural Research Council, South Africa. He is the Research Team Manager for the Geoinformation Sciences Division. He has a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria, Geoinformatics Department, and a Research Fellow of Wits University. His research focuses on applications of mathematical and statistical modelling, AI, UAVs, satellite imagery, and big data analysis to problems in conservation, agriculture, wildlife management, and epidemiology. His interests are in aspects concerning climate change and regime shifts in terrestrial and agricultural systems. Systems enter new states dominated by different conditions than those that previously dominated the system. An improved understanding of the non-linear processes and drivers of regime changes is central to his research focus.
