I am an assistant professor in Department of Cancer Prevention and Control at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY. I am a cancer researcher trained in medical anthropology and anthropological genetics, subfields of anthropology aiming to understand the complex relationship of genetic, biologic, and social/behavioral factors related to health. This unique training background prepared me to conduct transdisciplinary research projects to understand the interactions of gene/biology and social/behavior factors causing cancer health disparities as well as development and progression of various diseases that are disproportionately affecting racial/ethnic minority groups. The overarching goals of my research are 1) to identify genetic, biological, and social/behavioral factors causing cancer health disparities and 2) to develop programs to reduce cancer burden and improve cancer care in racial/ethnic minority groups. I received PhD in anthropology, specializing in anthropological genetics. Previously I was a postdoctoral research fellow at the NCI funded Cancer Education and Career Development Program, Institute for Health Research and Policy, University of Illinois at Chicago.
