Ghizlane Bendriss, is a neurobiologist at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar working at the interface of microbiome science and brain function. She holds a PhD in Neurophysiology and Neurobiology and a Master’s degree in Cognitive Neuroscience from Aix-Marseille University, France. Her research focuses on the gut–microbiome–brain axis, with particular interest in how loss of microbial diversity and resilience contributes to vulnerability across neurodevelopmental and chronic conditions. She leads research on microbiome-based interventions, including probiotics, fermentation strategies, and fecal microbiota transplantation, with the aim of restoring microbial ecosystem balance. Her work builds on a QNRF-funded pilot study investigating microbiome profiles in autism spectrum disorders and inflammatory bowel diseases, which received first prize at the 12th Annual UREP competition. She works developing a multi-strain probiotic formulation targeting microbiome restoration in conditions associated with dysbiosis. In parallel, she develops innovative neuroscience education and outreach initiatives, and has led Qatar’s first clinical trial investigating the effects of Arabic music on brain activity and cognition (NCT04573101).
