Dr. Xiankai Lu was trained as an ecologist with an emphasis on ecosystem ecology and global change ecology. His current research focuses on nitrogen biogeochemistry in forest ecosystems. Dr. Lu is particularly interested in the processes and mechanisms of the response and acclimation of forest ecosystems to global changes, especially for nitrogen deposition, and the mechanisms of soil carbon sequestration and nitrogen retention in forests.
