I have been working in laser materials processing at RWTH Aachen University, Fraunhofer ILT, and Tsinghua University (DoME and SKLT) for more than 15 years. Currently, I am working as a scientific coordinator at Fraunhofer IOF in Jena (Germany). My special research interests are laser-based material processing, the technology of optical systems for laser systems, and non-contact methods for surface measurement and analysis. A special focus for laser-based manufacturing is the surface modification of metals, glass, and plastics by laser remelting. Commonly used methods are laser polishing, surface structuring by laser remelting (WaveShape), and laser ablation. Recently, I have become particularly interested in potential cross-border activities between emerging quantum technologies and laser materials processing.
