Pavements play a pivotal role in infrastructure construction, so pavement distress detection (PDD) will greatly affect pavement service life and vehicle operation safety. Traditional manual detection and computer detection methods have such disadvantages as low efficiency, high cost and error-proneness. Thus, they are not suitable for high-speed detection tasks due to a large number of defects. Defect detection methods based on deep learning can achieve end-to-end target detection, generalize and monitor targets in real time. On such a basis, this paper has proposed an efficient method of PDD based on improved YOLOv7. YOLOv7, which is the best-performing object detection model in the YOLO series, is known for its high efficiency, strong scalability, and support for panoramic detection. It lays a solid foundation for enhancing PDD models. In this paper, this model will be improved based on model speed and accuracy. Firstly, SimAM attention module is employed to weight feature images, which has greatly improved model accuracy. Secondly, Ghost module in place of a partial deep convolution module is used to improve model running speed. Then, SIoU, instead of the original localization loss function, is performed to optimize the model training process. Finally, the proposed improved YOLOv7 model is applied to different road defect datasets and compared with other methods, such as Faster R-CNN, CenterNet, DETR, YOLOv6 and the original YOLOv7 model. The results show that the proposed method has ubiquitous advantages over the above-mentioned methods, with the average mAP, F1 value and FPS value of 85.8%, 0.697 and 62.13 fps respectively. Furthermore, the values of the parameters Params and FLOPs also decrease to some degree.

In real-world industrial applications, bearings are typically operated under variable speeds and loads depending on the production condition, which results in nonstationary vibration signals from the bearings. Synchrosqueezing transform is a method that can effectively reflect the change in frequency with time, which is suitable for processing nonstationary bearing signals. However, significant classification features are difficult to extract from time–frequency information when operation conditions such as speed and load change frequently. Hence, an improved two-dimensional (2D) convolutional neural network (CNN) named the 2D multiscale cascade CNN (2D MC-CNN) is proposed for performing bearing fault diagnosis under various operating conditions. In a 2D MC-CNN, a multiscale information fusion layer is added prior to the convolutional layer of a conventional CNN to form MC images such that sensitive bands can be acquired for fault recognition. Experiments are conducted on bearings by considering various sets of fault categories and fault severity levels under six operating conditions. The experimental results show that the proposed method effectively extracts fault-related features and demonstrates excellent diagnostic accuracy and robustness. Comparisons with the original CNN and other typically used fault diagnosis methods based on the same dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed 2D MC-CNN and bearing fault diagnosis method.

Mechanical vibration signal mapped into a high-dimensional space tends to exhibit a special distribution and movement characteristics, which can further reveal the dynamic behavior of the original time series. As the most natural representation of high-dimensional data, tensor can preserve the intrinsic structure of the data to the maximum extent. Thus, the tensor decomposition algorithm has broad application prospects in signal processing. High-dimensional tensor can be obtained from a one-dimensional vibration signal by using phase space reconstruction, which is called the tensorization of data. As a new signal decomposition method, tensor-based singular spectrum algorithm (TSSA) fully combines the advantages of phase space reconstruction and tensor decomposition. However, TSSA has some problems, mainly in estimating the rank of tensor and selecting the optimal reconstruction tensor. In this paper, the improved TSSA algorithm based on convex-optimization and permutation entropy (PE) is proposed. Firstly, aiming to accurately estimate the rank of tensor decomposition, this paper presents a convex optimization algorithm using non-convex penalty functions based on singular value decomposition (SVD). Then, PE is employed to evaluate the desired tensor and improve the denoising performance. In order to verify the effectiveness of proposed algorithm, both numerical simulation and experimental bearing failure data are analyzed.

The characteristics of the early fault signal of the rolling bearing are weak and this leads to difficulties in feature extraction. In order to diagnose and identify the fault feature from the bearing vibration signal, an adaptive local iterative filter decomposition method based on permutation entropy is proposed in this paper. As a new time-frequency analysis method, the adaptive local iterative filtering overcomes two main problems of mode decomposition, comparing traditional methods: modal aliasing and the number of components is uncertain. However, there are still some problems in adaptive local iterative filtering, mainly the selection of threshold parameters and the number of components. In this paper, an improved adaptive local iterative filtering algorithm based on particle swarm optimization and permutation entropy is proposed. Firstly, particle swarm optimization is applied to select threshold parameters and the number of components in ALIF. Then, permutation entropy is used to evaluate the mode components we desire. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the numerical simulation and experimental data of bearing failure are analyzed.

To improve the performance of single-channel, multi-fault blind source separation (BSS), a novel method based on regenerated phase-shifted sinusoid-assisted empirical mode decomposition (RPSEMD) is proposed in this paper. The RPSEMD method is used to decompose the original single-channel vibration signal into several intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), with the obtained IMFs and original signal together forming a new observed signal for the dimensional lifting. Therefore, an undetermined problem is transformed into a positive definite problem. Compared with the existing EMD method and its improved version, the proposed RPSEMD method performs better in solving the mode mixing problem (MMP) by employing sinusoid-assisted technology. Meanwhile, it can also reduce the computational load and reconstruction errors. The number of source signals is estimated by adopting singular value decomposition (SVD) and Bayes information criterion (BIC). Simulation analysis has demonstrated the superiority of this method being applied in multi-fault BSS. Furthermore, its effectiveness in identifying the multi-fault features of rolling-bearing has been also verified based on a test rig.
