She received her residency in Clinical Microbiology from Public Health Institute of Turkey in 1985 and Ph.D. degree in Medical Microbiology from Marmara University in 1997. She became associate professor in 2002 and professor in 2007. She served as the board member Turkish Society of Microbiology between 2009 to 2012. She is also a membership of the steering committee and the scientific committee of ‘Turkish Working Group on Standardization of Antimicrobial Susceptibility’ (ADTS) and of ‘National Antimicrobial Reistance Surveillance System’, respectively. Scientific Research Area: Her interests are focused on mechanisms and epidemiology of antibiotic resistance in Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria. In particular, she is currently working on understanding the role of efflux mediated mechanisms in the drug resistance of clinically imporant bacteria and also aminoglycoside resistance mechanisms in clinically significant bacteria. Abroad Experience and Projects; A post-doctoral fellow at Schering-Plough Research Institute, NJ, USA Project: Aminoglycoside resistance mechanisms in Enterobacteriaceae A post-doctoral fellow at INSERM, Marseille, France in 2000 Project: HIV-1 latency A post-doctoral fellow at the Medical Faculty of University of Aix-Marseille (EA 2197, Enveloppe Bacterienne, Permeabilite et Antibitiques), France Project: Efflux mediated antimicrobial resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae
