Species of Pulveroboletus (Boletaceae, Boletales) in China are investigated on the basis of morphology and molecular phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequences from nuc rDNA region encompassing the internal transcribed spacers 1 and 2, along with the 5.8S rDNA (ITS) and nuc 28S rDNA D1–D2 domains (28S) and sequences from the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF1). Nine species are recognized in the country, three of them are described as new: P. flaviscabrosus, P. rubroscabrosus, and P. subrufus, five of them are previous described taxa: P. brunneopunctatus, P. brunneoscabrosus, P. macrosporus, P. reticulopileus, and P. sinensis, the remaining one is tentatively named P. cf. ridleyi, which will be further studied in the future. A key to the Chinese taxa of the genus is provided. Unexpectedly, the current study did not identify disjunct populations of Pulveroboletus species in East Asia and North/Central America.

Leccinum is one of the most important groups of boletes. Most species in this genus are ectomycorrhizal symbionts of various plants, and some of them are well-known edible mushrooms, making it an exceptionally important group ecologically and economically. The scientific problems related to this genus include that the identification of species in this genus from China need to be verified, especially those referring to European or North American species, and knowledge of the phylogeny and diversity of the species from China is limited. In this study, we conducted multi-locus (nrLSU, tef1-α, rpb2) and single-locus (ITS) phylogenetic investigations and morphological observisions of Leccinum from China, Europe and North America. Nine Leccinum species from China, including three new species, namely L. album, L.parascabrum and L.pseudoborneense, were revealed and described. Leccinum album is morphologically characterized by the white basidioma, the white hymenophore staining indistinct greenish blue when injured, and the white context not changing color in pileus but staining distinct greenish blue in the base of the stipe when injured. Leccinumparascabrum is characterized by the initially reddish brown to chestnut-brown and then pale brownish to brown pileus, the white to pallid and then light brown hymenophore lacking color change when injured, and the white context lacking color change in pileus but staining greenish blue in the base of the stipe when injured. Leccinumpseudoborneense is characterized by the pale brown to dark brown pileus, the initially white and then brown hymenophore lacking color change when injured, and the white context in pileus and stipe lacking color change in pileus but staining blue in stipe when bruised. Color photos of fresh basidiomata, line drawings of microscopic features and detailed descriptions of the new species are presented.

Recognition of Tylopilus alboater once relied heavily on the morphological features of the basidiomata, which resulted in considerable confusion due to morphological stasis and plasticity. In this study, we examined specimens morphologically identified as T. alboater from Asia, North America, and Australia using phylogenomics and multi-locus sequence data. To clarify its phylogenetic placement within Boletaceae , we conducted a phylogenomic analysis based on 45 genomes (including three newly sequenced T. alboater genomes) comprising representatives from the eight subfamilies of Boletaceae . Additionally, we constructed a concatenated dataset (nrLSU + tef1-α + rpb1 + rpb2 ), incorporating representative species from all genera within the subfamily to which T. alboater belongs, to infer its phylogeny. Our phylogenomic analysis revealed that specimens morphologically identified as T. alboater exhibit polyphyly, clustering entirely within the subfamily Boletoideae . Our multi-locus phylogenetic analyses further indicated that these specimens represent eight distinct species distributed across five generic lineages within the subfamily Boletoideae , including one new genus, Neoporphyrellus , proposed in this study, as well as one new species, N. sinoalboater , and two new combinations, N. alboater and N. atronicotianus . The remaining five species are nested in four known genera, including two new species of Abtylopilus , Ab. indonesiensis and Ab. australiensis , and three known species belonging to Anthracoporus , Indoporus , and Tylopilus , respectively. These findings highlight the taxonomic complexity of the T. alboater complex and emphasize the importance of integrating phylogenomic and multi-locus approaches for accurate fungal systematics. Color photos of fresh basidiomata, line drawings of microscopic features, and detailed descriptions of the new taxa are presented.

Species of the genus Retiboletus in China were investigated based on morphology and phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequences from the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (nrLSU) and the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF1-α). Nine species were recovered from China, including two new and seven known species. The new species, namely Retiboletus ater and R. sinogriseus, from southwestern and northeastern China respectively, are documented and illustrated in this paper. Retiboletus ater is morphologically characterized by its black to grayish black pileus, white to grayish hymenophore, black to blackish stipe and white to grayish white context. Retiboletus sinogriseus is morphologically characterized by its brown to grayish-brown pileus, yellow to grayish-yellow hymenophore, pale yellow to brownish stipe and yellow to brownish-yellow context. Descriptions and line drawings of these two novel species and their comparisons with allied taxa are presented.

Gyroporus species with cyanescent oxidation reactions were investigated, based on morphology and phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequences from the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (nrLSU), the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and the mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate ATP synthase subunit 6 (atp6). Three species, including two new species, namely G. alpinus and G. flavocyanescens and one previously-described species, namely G. brunneofloccosus, are revealed from China. Collections formerly reported from China as “G. cyanescens” are either G. alpinus or G. flavocyanescens. The new species are documented and illustrated in detail, while the concept of G. brunneofloccosus is refined with additional recently-collected materials. Additionally, the cyanescent species G. pseudomicrosporus, previously described from China, is shown to be a member of the genus Gyrodon, based on re-examination of the type specimen. A key to the cyanescent Gyroporus species from China is provided.
