Natural disasters, notably landslides, pose significant threats to communities and infrastructure. Landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM) has been globally deemed as an effective tool to mitigate such threats. In this regard, this study considers the northern region of Pakistan, which is primarily susceptible to landslides amid rugged topography, frequent seismic events, and seasonal rainfall, to carry out LSM. To achieve this goal, this study pioneered the fusion of baseline models (logistic regression (LR), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), and support vector machine (SVM)) with ensembled algorithms (Cascade Generalization (CG), random forest (RF), Light Gradient-Boosting Machine (LightGBM), AdaBoost, Dagging, and XGBoost). With a dataset comprising 228 landslide inventory maps, this study employed a random forest classifier and a correlation-based feature selection (CFS) approach to identify the twelve most significant parameters instigating landslides. The evaluated parameters included slope angle, elevation, aspect, geological features, and proximity to faults, roads, and streams, and slope was revealed as the primary factor influencing landslide distribution, followed by aspect and rainfall with a minute margin. The models, validated with an AUC of 0.784, ACC of 0.912, and K of 0.394 for logistic regression (LR), as well as an AUC of 0.907, ACC of 0.927, and K of 0.620 for XGBoost, highlight the practical effectiveness and potency of LSM. The results revealed the superior performance of LR among the baseline models and XGBoost among the ensembles, which contributed to the development of precise LSM for the study area. LSM may serve as a valuable tool for guiding precise risk-mitigation strategies and policies in geohazard-prone regions at national and global scales.

In this paper, we suggest the modified Extended Direct Algebraic Method (mEDAM) to examine the existence and dynamics of solitary wave solutions in the context of the fractional coupled Higgs system, with Caputo’s fractional derivatives. The method begins with the formulation of nonlinear differential equations using a fractional complex transformation, followed by the derivation of solitary wave solutions. Two-dimensional, Three-dimensional and contour graphs are used to investigate the behavior of traveling wave solutions. The research reveals many families of solitary wave solutions as well as their deep interrelationships and dynamics. These discoveries add to a better understanding of the dynamics of the fractionally coupled Higgs system and have potential applications in areas that use nonlinear Fractional Partial Differential Equations (FPDEs).

The safe and sustainable design of rock slopes, open-pit mines, tunnels, foundations, and underground excavations requires appropriate and reliable estimation of rock strength and deformation characteristics. Cohesion (𝑐) and angle of internal friction (𝜑) are the two key parameters widely used to characterize the shear strength of materials. Thus, the prediction of these parameters is essential to evaluate the deformation and stability of any rock formation. In this study, four advanced machine learning (ML)-based intelligent prediction models, namely Lasso regression (LR), ridge regression (RR), decision tree (DT), and support vector machine (SVM), were developed to predict 𝑐 in (MPa) and 𝜑 in (°), with P-wave velocity in (m/s), density in (gm/cc), UCS in (MPa), and tensile strength in (MPa) as input parameters. The actual dataset having 199 data points with no missing data was allocated identically for each model with 70% for training and 30% for testing purposes. To enhance the performance of the developed models, an iterative 5-fold cross-validation method was used. The coefficient of determination (R2), mean absolute error (MAE), mean square error (MSE), root mean square error (RMSE), and a10-index were used as performance metrics to evaluate the optimal prediction model. The results revealed the SVM to be a more efficient model in predicting 𝑐 (R2 = 0.977) and 𝜑 (R2 = 0.916) than LR (𝑐: R2 = 0.928 and 𝜑: R2 = 0.606), RR (𝑐: R2 = 0.961 and 𝜑: R2 = 0.822), and DT (𝑐: R2 = 0.934 and 𝜑: R2 = 0.607) on the testing data. Furthermore, to check the level of accuracy of the SVM model, a sensitivity analysis was performed on the testing data. The results showed that UCS and tensile strength were the most influential parameters in predicting 𝑐 and 𝜑. The findings of this study contribute to long-term stability and deformation evaluation of rock masses in surface and subsurface rock excavations.

The current study investigates the association of board characteristics with firms’ environmental performance to provide further research and policy implications by carrying out systematic bibliometric analysis. The most potent contribution of the current study was to evaluate the performance of authors, geographical regions, journals and academic institutions to document their impact on the development of current literature. Moreover, the current study has used analytical statistics to examine how current research themes have evolved, and how impediments in existing literature can be overcome. Our analysis allows us to conclude that there is a lack of research collaboration between researchers and institutions in developing and developed countries. Finally, we summarize that the economic literature focuses more on BOD diversity, and there is less focus on theoretical development; non-listed firms, geographical proximity and mediating variables are research areas that need further academic attention. We conclude the current research investigation by identifying new research avenues.

In this study, we use the Khater Method (KM) as an efficient analytical tool to solve (3+1)-dimensional fractional extended shallow water wave equations (FESWWEs) with conformable derivatives. The KM transforms fractional partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations (ODEs) via strategic variable transformation. Then, series-form solutions to these ODEs are proposed, which turn them into nonlinear algebraic systems. The solution to this set of algebraic equations yields shock travelling wave solutions expressed in hyperbolic, trigonometric, exponential, and rational functions. The study’s findings are corroborated by 2D, 3D, and contour graphs that show the changing patterns of the detected shock travelling waves. These findings have important significance for the discipline, offering vital insights into the intricate dynamics of FESWWEs. The effectiveness of KM is demonstrated by its capacity to produce varied solutions and contribute to a thorough knowledge of such complex phenomena.

The remote sensing-based Earth satellites has become a beneficial instrument for the monitoring of natural hazards. This study includes a multi-sensors analysis to estimate the spatial-temporal variations of atmospheric parameters as precursory signals to the Mw 7.2 Haiti Earthquake (EQ). We studied EQ anomalies in Land Surface Temperature (LST), Air Temperature (AT), Relative Humidity (RH), Air Pressure (AP), and Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR). Moreover, we found EQ-associated atmospheric abnormalities in a time window of 3–10 days before the main shock by different methods (e.g., statistical, wavelet transformation, deep learning, and Machine Learning (ML)-based neural networks). We observed a sharp decrease in the RH and AP before the main shock, followed by an immense enhancement in AT. Similarly, we also observed enhancement in LST and OLR around the seismic preparation region within 3–10 days before the EQ, which validates the precursory behavior of all the atmospheric parameters. These multiple-parameter irregularities can contribute with the physical understanding of Lithosphere-Atmosphere-Ionosphere Coupling (LAIC) in the future in order to forecast EQs.
