Background: The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the clinical application effects of transnasal high flow nasal cannula compared to other conventional modalities for oxygen therapy devices in patients undergoing bronchoscopy. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in multiple English databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library, to collect relevant studies on the application of high flow nasal cannula in patients undergoing bronchoscopy, and conducted a meta-analysis utilizing RevMan 5.4 software, following the predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: A total of 12 studies meeting the inclusion criteria were included, involving 1,631 patients (HFNC group: n = 811, other oxygen therapy group: n = 820). The meta-analysis results demonstrated that HFNC significantly reduced the incidence of hypoxemia and improved the minimum oxygen saturation compared to conventional oxygen therapy (RR = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.18–0.41, p < 0.00001; MD = 6.09, 95% CI: 3.73–8.45, p < 0.00001). Furthermore, HFNC showed statistically significant differences when compared to non-invasive ventilation in terms of hypoxemia incidence (RR = 3.52, 95% CI: 1.13–10.97, p = 0.03) and minimum oxygen saturation (MD = −1.97, 95% CI: −2.97-−0.98, p < 0.0001). In addition, HFNC resulted in significantly shorter surgical time and higher PaO2 at the end of the procedure compared to conventional oxygen therapy (MD = 1.53, 95% CI: 0.66–2.40, p = 0.0006; MD = 15.52, 95% CI: 10.12–20.92, p < 0.00001). However, there were no statistically significant differences observed in PaCO2, EtCO2, and MAP at the end of the procedure (MD = 1.23, 95% CI: −0.74-3.20, p = 0.22; MD = −0.35, 95% CI: −3.77-3.06, p = 0.84; MD = −0.54, 95% CI: −2.44-1.36, p = 0.58).Conclusion: When HFNC or NIV is utilized during the examination and treatment of bronchoscopy patients, both oxygenation modalities enhance oxygenation function and reduce the incidence of hypoxemia compared to conventional oxygen therapy. HFNC can be regarded as a viable alternative to NIV for specific high-risk patients undergoing bronchoscopy. It decreases the duration of bronchoscopy and improves the PaO2 levels at the end of the procedure, but does not significantly impact the PaCO2, EtCO2, and mean arterial pressure.Systematic review registration: https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/, identifier 1414374462@qq.com.

Background: Patients with acute hypoxic respiratory failure (AHRF) face life-threatening complications during tracheal intubation. Preoxygenation can enhance oxygen reserves and mitigate hypoxemia risk, but the optimal strategy remains unclear. This study aimed to identify the best preoxygenation strategy for these patients. Methods: We conducted a network meta-analysis of studies published up to July 2024, evaluating conventional oxygen therapy (COT), high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive ventilation (NIV), and their combinations prior to intubation. Data were extracted and analyzed using pairwise and network meta-analysis within a Bayesian framework. Model selection was based on the deviance information criterion (DIC).Results: A total of 11 randomized controlled trials involving 2,874 patients were included. NIV preoxygenation significantly reduced the likelihood of SpO2 <80% during intubation compared to COT (RR 0.28, 95% CI 0.070–0.71). No significant differences were found in lowest SpO2, complications, ICU length of stay, or mortality across preoxygenation strategies. HFNC was the most effective for reducing complications, while HFNC combined with COT or NIV showed similar effects on the lowest SpO2 during intubation. Conclusion: Preoxygenation with HFNC appears to be the safest and most effective approach prior to intubation in patients with AHRF compared to other strategies.Systematic review registration: PROSPERO (CRD42024565053).

Background: With AI technologies increasingly integrated into nursing education, enhancing AI literacy among nursing students is critical, yet influencing factors remain understudied. Purpose: This study assessed AI literacy levels among nursing students, identified key influencing factors, and examined the mediating role of professional commitment between campus environmental support and AI literacy. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 1680 nursing students from 6 medical colleges in Anhui Province, China, using convenience sampling. Data were collected through structured scales and analyzed via multiple linear regression and mediation models. Results: AI literacy was moderately high, positively influenced by urban residence and prior AI training. Campus support directly enhanced it (β = 0.675), with professional commitment serving as a partial mediator (indirect β = 1.857). Conclusions: To enhance AI literacy, increasing campus AI resources, improving educational environments, and strengthening professional commitment are recommended, integrating AI competency into nursing education.

Objective: The study aimed to investigate the current status of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) among freshmen at a college in Wuhu City. It also sought to identify the factors that influence these aspects and provide insights for enhancing CPR KAP among students. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 1,550 college students from a university in Wuhu, Anhui Province, in 2024. A comprehensive general information questionnaire was developed following a review of databases, such as China Knowledge Infrastructure and PubMed. The CPR KAP scale, along with the General Self-Efficacy Scale and the eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS), were utilized for the web-based survey conducted through Questionnaire Star. Descriptive and quantitative methods were employed for statistical analysis. Results: Out of the 1,600 questionnaires collected, 50 responses were deemed invalid and subsequently excluded, resulting in 1,550 valid questionnaires and a validity rate of 96.7%. Consequently, the study included 1,550 participants, comprising 459 men and 1,091 women. The overall CPR KAP score for freshmen was 62.55 ± 13.74, with component scores for KAP being 31.17 ± 9.26, 24.56 ± 4.97, and 6.83 ± 5.51, respectively. Comparisons of scores across variables, such as gender, age, domicile location, self-perceived health status, parental education levels, first-aid training experience, presence of medical professionals in the family, experience with emergencies such as cardiac arrest, CPR training in previous curricula, and family health status, revealed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Pearson correlation analysis demonstrated a positive correlation between CPR KAP scores and both eHEALS (r = 0.358) and General Self-Efficacy Scale scores (r = 0.303), with both correlations being highly significant (p < 0.001). Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis identified eHEALS, first-aid training experience, inclusion of CPR training in the curriculum, gender, general self-efficacy, age, and domicile location as the primary factors influencing CPR KAP scores among freshmen. Conclusion: To enhance freshmen’s CPR KAP, future interventions should prioritize improving their general self-efficacy and eHEALS. Evidence suggests that strengthening self-efficacy can significantly enhance students’ confidence in performing CPR during emergencies. Furthermore, fostering eHEALS equips freshmen with the skills to comprehend and utilize health-related information effectively, which, in turn, promotes more positive attitudes and behaviors toward CPR adoption and practice. By focusing on these key areas, educational strategies can be developed to strengthen CPR preparedness among freshmen, ensuring that they are better equipped to respond in life-threatening situations.

Introduction: Foreign bodies in the airways can cause significant morbidity and mortality. If emergency personnel are unable to clear an airway obstruction frequently results in cardiac arrest. Patient concerns: A 78 -year -old man developed a persistent cough and dyspnoea after consuming alcohol. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy was performed, revealing complete blockage of the main airways on both sides by fish. Diagnosis: Endotracheal foreign body. Interventions: The foreign body was removed with an endotracheal tube under the guidance of a fiberoptic bronchoscope. Outcomes: The airway foreign body had been successfully removed and the man recovered uneventfully. Conclusion: When repeated attempts to extract airway foreign bodies under the guidance of bronchoscopy have failed, endotracheal intubation can be considered as a viable alternative in emergency situations.
