I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Griffith University in Brisbane in July 1999 and then completed a number of post-doctoral research posts at universities in the United Kingdom including the University of Nottingham (2003, 2006-2008), University of Birmingham (2005), Leeds University (2004) and Cambridge University (1999-2002). My expertise is in scanning microscopy which includes Raman, Scanning electron and scanning probe microscopy. The areas of research I have focussed on includes quantitative measurements using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and attachment of carbon nanotubes to AFM probes. I also have research interest in novels methods to synthesize nanomaterials such as phosphorene. From 2008- June 2019 I managed the scanning microscopy facility at Flinders University in Adelaide which formed part of the South Australian Research Facility node of Microscopy Australia. I am currently a Senior Research Fellow, Facility Leader and Facility Manager in the newly formed (established in 2019) Flinders Microscopy and Microanalysis (FMMA) in which I am responsible for AFM and confocal Raman microscopy. The FMMA is in the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University and its formation represents a significant investment (~$7M) and commitment by the College in infrastructure and staff and will continue to keep Flinders at the forefront of advanced microscopy techniques.
