Information

Dr. Javier Bonilla is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), Plataforma Solar de Almería (PSA). He completed his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Almería, focusing on the modeling of two-phase flow evaporators for parabolic-trough solar thermal power plants. He is a member of the Point-Focus Concentrating Solar Thermal Technologies research group and the joint program on digitalization for energy from the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). Presently, his research strategy has two main goals. The first is to demonstrate the potential of Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) to combat climate change and enhance Europe’s energy security and independence from fossil fuels, thanks to its massive storage capacity, flexible demand, and zero emissions. The second goal is to propose innovative Industry 4.0 solutions. In the case of CSP systems, current components exhibit a low degree of intelligence and autonomy, as they have not yet incorporated Industry 4.0 innovations, also known as digitalization, which includes modeling, simulation, automatic control, big data, and artificial intelligence.
