Prof. Dr. Ajay Shah holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (2004) from Tribhuvan University in Nepal, a master’s degree in Biological Engineering (2009) from Mississippi State University, and a doctoral degree in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (2013) from Iowa State University. Dr. Shah pursued his Ph.D. studies at Iowa State University as a part-time student while working full-time as an assistant scientist providing technical leadership and support to projects related to feedstock supply logistics and biobased systems analysis. After the completion of his Ph.D. degree, he joined the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at The Ohio State University as an assistant professor. Dr. Shah’s research focuses primarily on sustainable agricultural production and biobased system analysis. In particular, some of his major research efforts include techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessments of biobased and agricultural systems; feedstock production and supply logistics for biobased and agro-industries; the densification and thermal (pre-)processing of lignocellulosic biomass; establishing Taraxacum kok-saghyz (TK) – an alternative natural rubber plant – through direct seeding; and improving harvest and post-harvest grain management practices of smallholder farmers in developing countries.
