She obtained the M.Phil (Sri Lanka, 1991) and the Ph.D (University of Glasgow, 1994) in Bio Organic Chemistry. She is the Chair of Chemistry, University of Kelaniya. Currently she was appointed as the Director, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. She served the President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon in 2019/2020. She is a fellow of Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon and a Chartered Chemist (CChem), Royal Society of Chemistry. She is recipient of national and international awards. She has published over 54 research papers in indexed journals, written or edited 11 books / book chapters. Her research interests are isolation and characterization of bioactive natural products from plants and microorganisms.
