João Figueira Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra, Portugal Faculty of Medicine – Coimbra University João Figueira obtained his Medical and PhD degree at Faculty of Medicine – Coimbra University and works as Ophthalmologist Consultant at the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra. He combines his clinical practice with teaching activity at the Coimbra Faculty of Medicine as Invited Professor of Ophthalmology. He is also a researcher at the Association for Innovation and Biomedical Research on Light and Image (AIBILI) and Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Life Sciences (IBILI) – University of Coimbra, having participated as principal investigator in several international multi-center clinical trials and research projects in ophthalmology, especially in the area of retinal pathology. He is currently dedicated to the medical and surgical retina investigation, owning his research area of relevance in diabetic retinopathy, vitreo-retinal interface diseases. Has published at a national and international level, several articles and chapters in books and magazines of the specialty and he is a reviewer of national and international scientific publications. He is an invited as speaker for several congresses as well a main consultant for advisory boards.
