Employing grounded theory methodology, this article investigates collaborative innovation based on interview and secondary data collected from a technology alliance. The findings reveal that alliance-specific capabilities and knowledge-based capabilities are the two critical drivers. Alliance-specific capabilities include such components as alliance management, mutual learning, and alliance innovation; while knowledge-based capabilities refer to knowledge-centered activities of exploration, exchange, integration, and exploitation. Further, the two types of capabilities interact with each other in creating a technological knowledge base through mobilizing knowledge and in, ultimately, producing technological innovation. Taken together, this article extends the existing literature of technology alliance by providing a knowledge-based, capability-building view in unpacking collaborative innovation. It also provides implications for managers who aim to enhance technological innovation via alliance cooperation.

This paper uses an in-depth case study approach to compare and analyze e-business microcredit firms and traditional bank business models in China, employing a business model template redefined as an analytical tool. The results suggest that the EMF business model has typical disruptive innovation characteristics, shedding new light on the definition and criteria of disruptive business model innovation as little research has done on its systematic analysis. This study also presents a holistic conceptual framework for four triggers constituting their business model difference, inclusive of non-mainstream customer positioning, inclusive platform-based infrastructure, platform-based leveraged capability, and user experience-centered value proposition.

The Internet provides the most extensive platforms for information and knowledge seeking. Accordingly, investigating antecedents for online knowledge seeking becomes an important topic for managing knowledge-based work and innovation. Taking an integrative approach drawing on social cognitive theory, expectancy theory, and theory of reasoned action, this article examines the antecedents of online knowledge seeking with a sample of 246 professionals in 43 technical R&D teams. The results reveal that 1) computer-based self-efficacy, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and norms of knowledge sharing have a joint and positive effect on online knowledge seeking behavior; and 2) norms of knowledge sharing positively moderate the relationship between extrinsic motivation and online knowledge seeking. This article is one of the few that develop and empirically test an integrative model of antecedents for online knowledge seeking. The findings not only contribute to the knowledge seeking and knowledge management literatures, but also shed light on managing employee knowledge behaviors and learning via the means of the Internet.

Entrepreneurs, as initiators of entrepreneurial activities, have long been one of important research objects in the field of entrepreneurship research and, however, there has been no study reported on how entrepreneurial traits influence venture performance from a perspective of entrepreneurial orientation. This study explored the relationship between entrepreneurial traits and venture performance by focusing on the mediating role of entrepreneurial orientation and the moderating role of entrepreneurial environment perception. Using time-lagged data from 321 private enterprises in China, the results reveal that entrepreneurial traits are positively related to venture performance, and this link is mediated by entrepreneurial orientation. Additionally, moderated path analysis indicates that entrepreneurial environment perception strengthens the direct effect of the entrepreneurial traits on entrepreneurial orientation and its indirect effect on venture performance. This study extends the scope of entrepreneurial traits research, and provides evidence for arguments that entrepreneurship in the context of China.

Double-carbon policies are crucial for governments to steer corporate transformation toward green tech innovation and high-quality economic growth. Using data from 2011 to 2020 across 30 Chinese regions, this study constructs a spatial Dubin model to explore links among double-carbon policy intensity, government funding, big data development, and product/process-oriented green tech capabilities in firms. The results show that the intensity of double-carbon policies has a significantly positive impact on product-oriented and process-oriented green technology innovation capabilities of enterprises. The intensity of double-carbon policies has a significantly positive and direct effect but a negative spillover effect on process-oriented green technology innovation capability of the enterprise, whereas it only has a significantly positive and direct effect on the product-oriented green technology innovation capability of the enterprise. Government funding support mediates the effect of the intensity of double-carbon policies on product-oriented and process-oriented green technology innovation capabilities of enterprises. Big data development level moderates the effect of government funding support as a mediator on the product-oriented green technology innovation capability of the enterprise, but cannot moderate the effect of the intensity of double-carbon policies on the product-oriented green technology innovation capability of the enterprise.
