Georgios D. Barmparis is a researcher with the Physics Department of the University of Crete and with the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser at the Foundation of Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) in Crete. He holds a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Computational Physics, and a Ph.D. (2012) in Computational Materials Science from the University of Crete. His career includes postdoctoral roles at Vanderbilt University and the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA), the Center for Quantum Complexity and Nanotechnology at the University of Crete, and a visiting researcher position at the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University. His research interests focus on the integration of Materials Science and Machine Learning for the discovery of two-dimensional materials, the development of Physics-Informed Machine Learning methods for inverse problems in solid-state, quantum, and biomedical systems, and applications of Quantum Machine Learning to medical data.
