For multi-task mobile edge computing(MEC) systems in satellite Internet of Things(IoT), there are dependencies between different tasks, which need to be collected and jointly offloaded. It is crucial to allocate the computing and communication resources reasonably due to the scarcity of satellite communication and computing resources. To address this issue, we propose a joint multi-task offloading and resource allocation scheme in satellite IoT to improve the offloading efficiency. We first construct a novel resource allocation and task scheduling system in which tasks are collected and decided by multiple unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV) based aerial base stations, the edge computing services are provided by satellites. Furthermore, we investigate the multi-task joint computation offloading problem in the framework. Specifically, we model tasks with dependencies as directed acyclic graphs(DAG), then we propose an attention mechanism and proximal policy optimization (A-PPO) collaborative algorithm to learn the best offloading strategy. The simulation results show that the A-PPO algorithm can converge in 25 steps. Furthermore, the A-PPO algorithm reduces cost by at least 8.87 $\%$ by default compared to several baseline algorithms. In summary, this paper provides a new insight for cost optimization of multi-task MEC system in satellite IoT.

Optical nonlinearity impairments have been a major obstacle for high-speed, long-haul and large-capacity optical transmission. In this paper, we propose a novel convolutional neural network (CNN)-based perturbative nonlinearity compensation approach in which we reconstruct a feature map with two channels that rely on first-order perturbation theory and build a classifier and a regressor as a nonlinear equalizer. We experimentally demonstrate the CNN equalizer in 375 km 120-Gbit/s dual-polarization 64-quadrature-amplitude modulation (64-QAM) coherent optical communication systems. We studied the influence of the dropout value and nonlinear activation function on the convergence of the CNN equalizer. We measured the bit-error-ratio (BER) performance with different launched optical powers. When the channel size is 11, the optimum BER for the CNN classifier is 0.0012 with 1 dBm, and for the CNN regressor, it is 0.0020 with 0 dBm; the BER can be lower than the 7 $\%$ hard decision-forward threshold of 0.0038 from −3 dBm to 3 dBm. When the channel size is 15, the BERs at −4 dBm, 4 dBm and 5 dBm can be lower than 0.0020. The network complexity is also analyzed in this paper. Compared with perturbative nonlinearity compensation using a fully connected neural network (2392-64-64), we can verify that the time complexity is reduced by about 25 $\%$ , while the space complexity is reduced by about 50 $\%$ .

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) has the potential to dramatically enhance the amount of information in the Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT) system. Nevertheless, underwater-turbulence-induced scintillation will destroy the orthogonality of OAM modes, hence degrading the performance of the system. In this article, a random-amplitude-mask-based adaptive optics (AOs) technique is proposed for the sake of mitigating the turbulence effects in the OAM-based underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) system. Combined with phase retrieval algorithms, the magnitudes of linear measurements obtained from the distorted OAM beams modulated with a series of random amplitude masks and focused by a lens are employed for the phase estimation. Furthermore, we present a comprehensive performance comparison against state-of-the-art phaseless wave-front sensing techniques. Moreover, the mixture exponential-generalized gamma (EGG) distribution is applied for characterizing the probability density function (PDF) of reference-channel irradiance of OAM beams coupled into a single-mode fiber (SMF). In the end, the performance metrics, such as the outage probability, the average bit-error-rate (BER), and the ergodic capacity are analyzed with the aid of PDF for both single-input-single-output (SISO) and multiinput-multioutput (MIMO) systems. In a nutshell, this article provides new insights for the applications of AO in the OAM-based UWOC system, which can serve as a candidate for supporting IoUT devices.

Predicting the traffic in metro and access networks has a significant influence on expanding and upgrading the network. However, the intricate temporal and spatial correlations in such networks are affected by the users' behaviour and geographic characteristics. Consequently, predicting network traffic in metro or access networks faces significant challenges. To enhance the accuracy of this prediction, this paper explores a spatio-temporal approach to predicting traffic, based on a transformer model. This model effectively captures the temporal correlations in the traffic through a multi-head attention mechanism, learning long-term correlations resulting from the behaviour of the users of the individual nodes. Additionally, it acquires the spatial correlations of the traffic through a graph convolutional layer to capture short-term bursty correlations between users. Unlike previous single-point predictions, we optimize the model to make collaborative predictions for all the network nodes. Through parameter optimization, the improved model accurately predicts network traffic in small-scale regions. We implemented simulations using OMNET++ and predicted the traffic in various scenarios. Concurrently, we validated the proposed method with real network traffic based on operator measurements, achieving a prediction accuracy of 98.49%.

Benefiting from dense connections in data center networks (DCNs), load balancing algorithms are capable of steering traffic into multiple paths for the sake of preventing traffic congestion. However, given each path’s time-varying and asymmetrical traffic state, this may also lead to worse congestion when some paths are overutilised. Especially in the two-tier hybrid optical/electrical DCNs (Hoe-DCNs), the port contentions and large-grained optical packets of the fast optical switch (FOS) require the top-of-rack (TOR) switch to have microsecond-level load balancing capability for microburst traffic. This paper establishes a leaf-spine Hoe-DCN model to illustrate the principal characteristic of dynamic load balancing in TOR switches for the first time. Moreover, we propose the dynamic distributed multi-path (DDMP) load balancing algorithm that relies on dynamic hashing computing for network flow distribution in DCNs, which dynamically adjusts traffic flow distribution at microsecond level according to the inverse ratio of the buffer occupancy. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm reduces the TOR-to-TOR latency by 15.88% and decreases the packet loss by 22.06% compared to conventional algorithms under regular load conditions, which effectively improves the overall performance of the Hoe-DCNs. Moreover, our proposed algorithm prevents more than 90% packet loss under low load conditions.

The integration of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents promising opportunities for managing and optimizing LEO satellite network routing. However, as the scale and coverage of satellite networks continue to expand, challenges are posed to both centralized and distributed architectures in terms of managing network information and coping with routing complexity. To overcome these challenges, leveraging distributed SDN technology, a stigmergy multi-agent hierarchical deep reinforcement learning routing algorithm is proposed in multi-domain collaborative satellite networks. A pheromone-based mechanism is incorporated to facilitate collaboration during independent training, and hierarchical control is employed to decouple the complexity of cross-domain routing decisions. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm exhibits good scalability and performance in large-scale satellite networks.
