Prof. Dr. Andre P. Kengne holds a PhD in medicine from Sydney University, Australia. He is the current Director of the South African Medical Research Council’s Non-Communicable Diseases Research Unit and holds conjoint appointments as Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town, as well as Extraordinary Professor of Global Health, Department of Global Health, Stellenbosch University. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Instituto de Salud Global de Barcelona (ISGlobal), Barcelona University; a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences; a Member of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa (ASSAf); an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the George Institute for Global Health; and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow, Julius Centre, University Medical Centre, Utrecht. His research focuses on non-communicable disease epidemiology and prevention with a major focus on cardiovascular disease, diabetes, metabolic diseases, chronic kidney disease, co-morbid non-communicable diseases in people with HIV, disease risk modeling, prognostic and diagnostic research, and implementation research. Throughout his journey, he has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and monographs on chronic diseases in Africa and at the global level.
