I obtained first my MD and later on my PhD at Leipzig University. After obtaining a post-doc at the Copenhagen University, I returned to Leipzig to build up my group and eventually became a Full Professor of Signal Transduction at the Rudolf Schönheimer Institute of Biochemistry. My research interest has always been with orphan GPCRs in general, but with a specific focus on adhesion GPCRs. I wish to discover how they are activated, what their physiological roles are, what pathologies occur through mutations of these receptors, and how we can modify all of these parameters.
