Earned her PhD in Fungal Ecology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 2014 for her work on the community structure of marine arenicolous fungi from the Gulf of Mexico and the population genetics of the cosmopolitan species Corollospora maritima. She has worked on fungal comparative transcriptomics, ecology and population genetics.
