Alessio Mengoni is professor at the University of Florence. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology in 1997 from the University of Florence, and in 2000, he received a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Pavia. After he specialized in the field of ecological genetics and experiences in various countries (Banaras Hindu University, India; Vrije University, Amsterdam; Belgian Nuclear Research Center, Belgium), he received a position as an assistant professor of Genetics at the University of Florence in 2007; in 2014, he was appointed as Associate Professor and is currently working in the Department of Biology. From 2015 to 2021, he has been a visiting professor at the Biotechnology Department of the University of Gdansk, Poland. He is interested in molecular microbial ecology and bacterial genomics.
