With the increased usage of Web 2.0 and data-affluent tools such as social media platforms and web blog services, the challenge of extracting public sentiment and disseminating personal health information has become more common than ever in the last decade. This paper proposes a novel model for Dengue disease detection based on social media posts alone. The model does not access any personal information of people or any medical record. The model extracts the presence of patients infected with Dengue disease based on tweets only and decides whether it is a general discussion about the disease, and no one is actually infected, or people are actually infected with that disease. The identification of people infected with Dengue is determined by clinical tests, but the propose technique is used for automatic surveillance and identification of regions where the spread is happening at an alarming rate and guide healthcare professional to take necessary actions to control the spread. This paper uses different machine/deep learning approaches to utilize tweets data for automatic and efficient disease detection. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model is able to achieve 92% accuracy compared to the current state-of-the-art techniques in this domain.

This paper presents a multi-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) system, where multiple UAVs (variable number of UAVs) are deployed to serve Internet of Things devices (IoTDs). We aim to minimize the sum of hovering and flying energies of UAVs by optimizing the trajectories of UAVs. The problem is very complicated as we have to consider the deployment of stop points (SPs), the association between UAVs and SPs, and the order of SPs for UAVs. To solve the problem, this paper proposed a novel genetic trajectory planning algorithm with variable population size (GTPA-VP), which consists of two phases. In the first phase, a genetic algorithm (GA) with a variable population size is used to update the deployment of SPs. Accordingly, a multi-chrome GA is adopted to find the association between UAVs and SPs, an optimal number of UAVs, and the optimal order of SPs for UAVs. The effectiveness of the proposed GTPA-VP is demonstrated through several experiments on a set of ten instances with up to 200 IoTDs. It is evident from the experimental results that the proposed GTPA-VP outperforms the benchmark algorithms in terms of the energy consumption of the system.

The medical and healthcare domains require automatic diagnosis systems (ADS) for the identification of health problems with technological advancements. Biomedical imaging is one of the techniques used in computer-aided diagnosis systems. Ophthalmologists examine fundus images (FI) to detect and classify stages of diabetic retinopathy (DR). DR is a chronic disease that appears in patients with long-term diabetes. Unattained patients can lead to severe conditions of DR, such as retinal eye detachments. Therefore, early detection and classification of DR are crucial to ward off advanced stages of DR and preserve the vision. Data diversity in an ensemble model refers to the use of multiple models trained on different subsets of data to improve the ensemble’s overall performance. In the context of an ensemble model based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) for diabetic retinopathy, this could involve training multiple CNNs on various subsets of retinal images, including images from different patients or those captured using distinct imaging techniques. By combining the predictions of these multiple models, the ensemble model can potentially make more accurate predictions than a single prediction. In this paper, an ensemble model (EM) of three CNN models is proposed for limited and imbalanced DR data using data diversity. Detecting the Class 1 stage of DR is important to control this fatal disease in time. CNN-based EM is incorporated to classify the five classes of DR while giving attention to the early stage, i.e., Class 1. Furthermore, data diversity is created by applying various augmentation and generation techniques with affine transformation. Compared to the single model and other existing work, the proposed EM has achieved better multi-class classification accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity of 91.06%, 91.00%, 95.01%, and 98.38%, respectively.

Fuzzy logic is an approach that reflects human thinking and decision making by handling uncertainty and vagueness using fuzzy membership functions. When a human is engaged in the design of a fuzzy system, symmetric properties are naturally preferred. Fuzzy c-means clustering is a clustering algorithm that can cluster datasets to produce membership matrix and cluster centers, which results in generating type-1 fuzzy membership functions. However, fuzzy c-means algorithm has a limitation of producing only a single membership function type, Gaussian MF. Generation of multiple fuzzy membership functions is of immense importance as it provides more efficient and optimal solutions to a problem. Therefore, an approach to generate multiple type-1 fuzzy membership functions through fuzzy c-means is required for the optimal and improved results of classification datasets. Hence, to overcome the limitation of the fuzzy c-means algorithm, an approach for the generation of type-1 fuzzy triangular and trapezoidal membership function through fuzzy c-means is considered in this study. The approach is used to calculate and enhance the accuracy of classification datasets called iris, banknote authentication, blood transfusion, and Haberman’s survival. The proposed approach of generating MFs using FCM produce asymmetric MFs, whose results are compared with the MFs produced from grid partitioning (GP), which are symmetric MFs. The results show that the proposed approach of generating type-1 fuzzy membership function through fuzzy c-means is effective and can be adopted.
