Biography

Kentaro Kato is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (NEKKEN), Nagasaki University, Japan. His research focuses on glycobiology and parasitology, with particular emphasis on glycan-mediated host–pathogen interactions. He has extensive experience studying protozoan and helminth parasites, including Entamoeba histolytica, Schistosoma mansoni, and Leishmania species. Dr. Kato received his Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Hokkaido University in 1997 and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from The University of Tokyo in 2004. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen from 2004 to 2008 and at Hokkaido University from 2008 to 2010. He has been affiliated with the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University since 2010. His research interests include parasite-specific glycan recognition systems, glycosyltransferases, membrane transporters, and the development of glycan-based analytical tools. By integrating biochemical approaches, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, and molecular parasitology, his work aims to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying parasite pathogenicity and host adaptation. He has published widely in international peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in academic editorial activities and graduate education.
