Aiming at the characteristics of remote sensing images such as a complex background, a large number of small targets, and various target scales, this paper presents a remote sensing image target detection algorithm based on improved YOLOv8. First, in order to extract more information about small targets in images, we add an extra detection layer for small targets in the backbone network; second, we propose a C2f-E structure based on the Efficient Multi-Scale Attention Module (EMA) to enhance the network’s ability to detect targets of different sizes; and lastly, Wise-IoU is used to replace the CIoU loss function in the original algorithm to improve the robustness of the model. Using our improved algorithm for the detection of multiple target categories in the DOTAv1.0 dataset, the mAP@0.5 value is 82.7%, which is 1.3% higher than that of the original YOLOv8 algorithm. It is proven that the algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively improve target detection accuracy in remote sensing images.
SAR-to-optical (S2O) translation is able to covert SAR into optical images, which help the interpreter to extract information efficiently. In the absence of strictly matched datasets, it is difficult for existing methods to complete training on unpaired data with a minimum amount of data. By employing the recent Schrödinger bridge-based transformation framework, a multiscale axial residual module (MARM) based on the concept of multi-scale feature fusion has been proposed in this paper. To enable efficient translation of SAR to optical images, the generator and discriminator of the model have been designed. Extensive experiments on the SEN1-2 dataset conducted, and the results show the superiority of the proposed method in terms of the generation quality. Compared with the classical CycleGAN, the proposed method can improve the FID metrics by 42.05%.
Due to numerous Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, urgent analysis of many temporary inter-satellite links (ISLs) is necessary for mega constellation networks. Therefore, introducing a dynamic link in topology design is crucial for increasing constellation redundancy and improving routing options. This study presents one class of static topology of satellites (STLS) and two types of dynamic topology of satellites (DTLS). Firstly, a call model based on global population density distribution is determined using world population density by provincial administrative divisions. Then, using a common simulation platform, the Dijkstra algorithm obtains random paths between 10,000 pairs of urban ground stations, adopting a time slice division strategy. Finally, 3 indexes are obtained within 66-time slices: average call distance, number of hops, and total time delay. Results show that DTLS1 reduces these indexes by 3.58%, 3.72%, and 3.57%, respectively, compared with DTLS2 under the same conditions, indicating that DTLS1 has the best network performance, transmitting traffic quickly in any direction through the reverse track, thereby verifying the related hypothesis.
This paper presents an image fusion network based on a special residual network and attention mechanism. Compared with the traditional fusion network, the image fusion network has the advantages of an end-to-end network and integrates the feature extraction advantages of the attention mechanism residual network. It overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional network that need complex design rules and manual operation. In this method, hierarchical feature fusion is used to achieve effective fusion. A combined loss function is designed to optimize training results and improve image fusion quality. This paper uses many qualitative and quantitative experimental analyses on different data sets. The results show that, compared with the comparison algorithm, the method in this paper has a stronger retention ability of infrared and visible light information and better indexes. 72% of eleven indexes compared with some images in the public TNO data set are optimal or sub-optimal, and 80% are optimal or suboptimal in the RoadScene data set, which is much higher than other algorithms. The overall fusion effect is more in line with human visual perception.
Infrared images are susceptible to interference from a variety of factors during acquisition and transmission, resulting in the inclusion of mixed noise, which seriously affects the accuracy of subsequent vision tasks. To solve this problem, we designed a mixed noise removal algorithm for infrared images based on improved CycleGAN. First, we proposed a ResNet-E Block that incorporates the EMA (Efficient Multi-Scale Attention Module) and build a generator based on it using the skip-connection structure to improve the network’s ability to remove mixed noise of different strengths. Second, we added the PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) as an extra calculation item of cycle consistency loss, so that the network can effectively retain the detailed information of infrared images while denoising. Finally, we conducted experimental validation on both synthetic noisy images and real noisy images, which proved that our algorithm can effectively remove the mixed noise in infrared images and the denoising effect is better than other similar methods.
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an essential tool for monitoring and managing maritime traffic and ensuring safety. It is particularly valuable because it can provide surveillance in all weather conditions. Ship wake detection has attracted considerable attention in offshore management as it has potential for widespread use in ship positioning and motion parameter inversion, surpassing conventional ship detection methods. Traditional wake detection methods depend on linear feature extraction through image transformation processing techniques, which are often ineffective and time-consuming when applied to large-scale SAR data. Conversely, deep learning (DL) algorithms have been infrequently utilized in wake detection and encounter significant challenges due to the complex ocean background and the effect of the sea state. In this study, we propose a lightweight rotating target detection network designed for detecting ship wakes under various sea states. For this purpose, we initially analyzed the features of wake samples across various frequency domains. In the framework, a YOLO structure-based deep learning is implemented to achieve wake detection. Our network design enhances the YOLOv8’s structure by incorporating advanced techniques such as deep separation convolution and combined frequency domain–spatial feature extraction modules. These modules are used to replace the usual convolutional layer. Furthermore, it integrates an attention technique to extract diverse features. By conducting experiments on the OpenSARWake dataset, our network exhibited outstanding performance, achieving a wake detection accuracy of 66.3% while maintaining a compact model size of 51.5 MB and time of 14 ms. This model size is notably less than the existing techniques employed for rotating target detection and wake detection. Additionally, the algorithm exhibits excellent generalization ability across different sea states, addressing to a certain extent the challenge of wake detection being easily influenced by varying sea states.
