Prof. Dr. Gilda Carrasco Silva obtained a Ph.D. in Horticulture at Wye College, University of London, in 1993. She entered the School of Agronomy at the University of Talca in 1988, where she still works today. From 1993 to the present, she has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and conducting applied research in the area of horticultural crops, especially in soilless crops (hydroponics). She has been an Associate Professor since 1997, when she was elected Director of the Horticulture Department of the Faculty. In 2000, she became Director of the Master’s program in Horticulture at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and then the General Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Talca, a position she held for 6 years. In 2001, she completed the IGLU course in University Management (OUI). She was elected Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, a position she held from 2006 to 2008. She is a visiting professor at the Doctorate of the University of Almeria (School of Agricultural Engineering), has published books, and articles in her specialty, and has presented papers in different international congresses. She was General Secretary of the University of Talca between May 2010 and June 2012. She was the coordinator of the Agronomy and Forestry Sciences Committee of the Advanced Human Capital Formation Program Becas Chile, CONICYT in 2011. She currently serves as Academic Vice Chancellor of the University of Talca since July 2012.
