This work focuses on firms that sell perishable products to risk-averse strategic consumers over two periods: the full-price period and the clearance period. The risk-aversion level of strategic consumers affects their expected utility in both periods, which will determine their purchasing behaviour. Typically, firms implement either quantity commitment (QC), price commitment (PC) or rational-expectation equilibrium (REE) policies to plan for risk-averse strategic consumers’ purchasing behaviour. In this study, we develop and analyze a novel model on the sales policy, full price, and the initial inventory decisions in the above setting. Results show that the risk-aversion level of strategic consumers has structural implications on optimal policies. First, firms should implement QC when the risk-aversion level is higher than a critical threshold; otherwise, PC is better. Second, the critical threshold of risk aversion increases as the unit cost of a product and clearance price decrease and as the consumer valuation increases. This can affect the optimal policy (QC, PC or REE). Finally, PC is always optimal when strategic consumers are risk seeking. We also conclude that the optimal policy is significantly affected by the proportion of strategic consumers when we consider different kinds of consumers (e.g. myopic consumers).

Willingness-to-cede (WTC) profit behaviours for the purpose of effective cooperation have increasingly emerged as a best practice in competitive supply chain environments; however, this has been complicated by sustainability issues. Inspired by this fact, we study normative prescriptions and models that can be used to coordinate sustainable supply chains considering supply chain leaders' WTC behaviour. Along this line, we adopt a multi-methodological approach and carry out a two-stage analysis of a three-player duopoly supply chain (SDSC) with a leader (i.e., the focal firm) and two competitive followers who provide sustainable products or services. In the first stage, we adopt a non-cooperative game to characterize the interactions within five non-cooperative and cooperative models. In the second stage, to coordinate the SDSC, we first derive the characteristic functions from the equilibrium results of the five models and then revise the classical equal allocation of the non-separable contribution (EANSC) value by incorporating the leader's WTC behavioural parameter. This revised EANSC value serves as a novel solution and thereby enhances the scientific value of the cooperative game theoretical approach. Analytical and numerical studies show that under conditions in which the leader has power and is willing to cede, the optimal coordinated solutions can be obtained when both sustainability competition and the WTC are at a low level; leaders are not willing to cede profits if sustainability competition is high due to product substitutability between two followers. This research illustrates how behavioural theory and non-cooperative and cooperative game theory can be sufficiently modified and adopted to advance supply chain-level cooperation for sustainability. We further carry out a survey and interviews to provide empirical evidence to support our findings.

Despite a growing body of research that has investigated the impacts of social effect on the amount pledged in crowdfunding, some questions remain unclear. How does herding behavior influence the performance in supplier innovation crowdfunding, and is such behavior rational? What are the primary mechanisms of herding behavior? Based on a panel data set from Kickstarter, we find that it is rational herding rather than information cascade that has a positive effect on the performance in supplier innovation crowdfunding, that is, later backers will combine their private information about projects with others’ contributions to make decisions. Prior contribution acts as the quality signal and affects the later crowdfunding performance. The empirical studies also testify that information asymmetries, word of mouth effect, network effect, and rational behavior are the primary mechanisms of herding in supplier innovation crowdfunding.

Due to the personalized and diversified expression habits, the evaluation information in multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems, especially those with multiple experts, may appear in heterogeneous forms. Converting heterogeneous expressions to a single representation would lead to information loss. To solve this challenge, this article aims to address the MCDM problems with heterogeneous linguistic expressions by unifying the operations of heterogeneous linguistic representations. To do so, we propose to use expectation values and entropy measures to describe the meaning of linguistic evaluation information. The expectation functions of ten kinds of linguistic representations are respectively defined based on the semantics of linguistic terms. The entropy measures of these representations are developed to reflect the inherent uncertainty of evaluations. Afterward, a computation model for heterogeneous linguistic representations is presented based on their expectation values and entropy. On this basis, an MCDM framework with personalized heterogeneous linguistic information is constructed. A numerical example about selecting the best green logistics for a business-to-customer e-commerce enterprise shows the advantages of the proposed method in modeling personalized linguistic evaluations and retaining uncertain information in the computation process.

Regional water resources coordination (RWRC) plays a prominent role in long-term sustainability. In order to achieve harmonious utilization of regional water resources, it is suggested that local governments should focus on balancing three goals - security, equity, and efficiency, resulting in both ecological and socio-economic benefits in a region. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a comprehensive evaluation methodology for assessing the degree of RWRC. First, a security-equity-efficiency (SEE) evaluation indicator system is established. A novel multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach that integrates decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method and VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (in Serbian, known as VIKOR) method considering two different hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) is then proposed. With this approach, a final ranking is obtained for six alternatives for the RWRC of the relevant regions (i.e., Shandong Province, Henan Province, Hebei Province, Anhui Province, Tian City, Jiangsu Province) in North China Plain, and the six relevant regions receive coordination performance ranking of II, III, V, I, VI, IV. Moreover, comparison analysis and sensitivity analysis are conducted to verify the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method and dig deep into the RWRC conditions in the studied regions. Finally, some managerial suggestions are provided for strengthening the coordination levels in these regions.

Social sustainability can be mentioned as one of the pivotal objectives towards sustainable development which has received the least attention comparing to environmental and economic dimensions during these past years. Due to its impact on organization’s competitive power, researchers have proposed models to measure social performance in supply chains. However, most of these researches reveal shortcomings once encountering the cases with a huge number of criteria due to their complex computations. In order to fill this gap, this study proposes a new soft computing multi-criteria interval-valued Pythagorean fuzzy distance to ideal solution approach based on interval-valued Pythagorean closeness which performs outstandingly in cases with a high fluctuation in the number of criteria. A new mechanism is defined to distinguish the weak performing social factors through supply chains by classifying them into four categorize based on their performance and distance to the best performing factors. This approach is unique in the sense that it both covers a remarkable amount of uncertainty and eases the computational processes of the previous multi-criteria decision making approaches by modifying the steps to select the most ideal solution. The feasibility and applicability of this approach have been validated by applications to a numerical case and comparative analysis.

In competitive global markets, sustainable suppliers are critical success factors for sustainable supply chain operations. Sustainable supplier selection must be based on a complex network of numerous indicators and experts’ fuzzy linguistic terms. Considering the correlation between the evaluation criteria and the ambiguity of the criteria values, this paper proposes combining the rough DEMATEL method and the fuzzy VIKOR (FVIKOR) method to solve sustainable supplier selection problem. We determine 15 sustainable supplier evaluation criteria from economic, environmental and social dimensions. We also apply the rough DEMATEL method to determine the weight of evaluation indicators that are interrelated or even conflicting and use the FVIKOR method to determine supplier rankings by converting the fuzzy linguistic terms into precise information. The practicability of the proposed method is verified by an example of sustainable supplier selection.

In the process of supplier selection for green supply chain management, uncertain information may appear in alternatives’ performances or experts’ preferences. The stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA) is a beneficial technique to tackling the uncertain information in such a problem and the MULTIMOORA is a robust technique to aggregate alternatives’ utilities. This study dedicates to proposing an SMAA-MULTIMOORA method by considering the advantages of both methods. The integrated method can accept uncertain information as inputs. The steps of the SMAA-MULTIMOORA are illustrated. A case study about the selection of green suppliers is given to show the validity and robustness of the SMAA-MULTIMOORA method.

Evaluating patient satisfaction on medical services in terms of multiple aspects is critical for hospital management. To settle this problem, a criteria system for medical service evaluation is first structured through a survey on experts. The probabilistic linguistic representation model is used to portray the qualitative evaluations that are unquantifiable in nature or unable to be accurately measured. Then, the best-worst method is extended to the probabilistic linguistic context to determine the weights of criteria information. Afterwards, we propose a comprehensive method by combing the probabilistic linguistic best-worst method with the gained and lost dominance score method to measure both the collective and worst performances of alternatives. Finally, we investigate a practical case about managing patient satisfaction in the blood collection room of a Chinese hospital which undergoes a reformation. The results show that the patient satisfaction has greatly improved after the reformation.

As the key issue in the process of new urbanization, the problem of city-industry integration has drawn the increasing attention from government and academicians, especially in western China. Based on the Urban-Population-Industry (UPI) system, the study utilizes coupling coordination degree to evaluate urbanization city-industry integration level, and identifies the key factors affecting the level of urbanization city-industry integration. Firstly, this study attempts to comprehensively describe the urbanization city-industry integration by a complex system that combines with U, P, I subsystem. Secondly, a comprehensive method for calculating the coupling coordination degree is proposed to reveal the urbanization city-industry integration level in the process of urbanization, including: (i) Grey Relation Analysis (GRA) with Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS); (ii) Hesitant Fuzzy Preference Relationship (HFPR) and Entropy Method (EM); (iii) Coupling Coordination Degree Model (CCDM); and (iv) Particle Swarm Optimization Back Propagation Artificial Neural Network (PSOBPANN). Then, identify the key aspects that influence the level of urbanization city-industry integration. Finally, an empirical analysis of panel data of 18 cities in Sichuan Province from 2000 to 2016 was conducted to analyze the development process. The results indicated: (1) At present, most cities in Sichuan, western China, are at the low coordination level of urbanization city-industry integration. Attention should be given to promote common regional development by playing to the radiating role of the central city; and (2) U, P, I subsystem’s insufficient development is the reason for low coordination between the level of urbanization city-industry integration. The key constraint is the low development level and the slow development rate of industry subsystem.

Some sub-coalitions can not be formed or fail to satisfy the superadditivity in many realistic cooperative transferable utility (TU) games, which particularly exists in the logistics service industry. To exploit some novel solutions for addressing these TU games, we firstly propose again the equal surplus division value based on the least square method and players’ common excess vector, and then introduce the weighted equal surplus division value. Both of them belong to the family of the least square values. Inspired by the fact that many TU games base the profit distribution strategies not only on the egalitarian principle but also on the utility principle, the equal contribution division value and the weighted equal contribution division value based on the least square method and players’ contribution excess vector are spontaneously generated. An algorithm is described to make the four solutions proposed in this paper satisfy the property of individual rationality. Finally, to show the advantages, the practicability and the rationality of the four solutions, a practical example about the profit distribution strategy of a logistics enterprise coalition is illustrated and the contrastive analysis among them is given.

With the acceleration of industrialization, a large amount of energy consumption has brought tremendous pressure to the natural environment. In order to prevent environmental pollution and promote sustainable development, the environmental efficiency assessment as an effective way to provide decision-making basis has been given wide attention. This study measures the environmental efficiency of 30 provinces in China from 2006 to 2015 based on the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) environmental assessment radial model both under natural disposability and managerial disposability that considered the constant variable return to scale (RTS) and the damage to scale (DTS). In addition, the scale efficiency under the two kinds of disposability of China’s 30 provinces were also measured. We found that the environmental efficiencies of different provinces in China showed regional disparities. Provinces such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong had a good performance in unified environmental efficiency and scale efficiency both under natural disposability and managerial disposability. Generally speaking, the eastern regions always performed better than the central and western regions in unified environmental efficiency during the observed years. Therefore, policies should be established to distribute the resources in balance between the east, center, and west to further promote environmental efficiency.

Accompanying with strengthening consciousness of environmental protection and social security, developing sustainable supply chain (SSC) has been becoming more and more important. Under this background, it is essential to deeply understand and evaluate SSCs from comprehensive economy-environment-society aspects. In order to do this, this paper considers the SSC as a dynamic three-stage network system consisting of supplier, manufacturer and distributor across multiple periods, and establishes a novel dynamic network DEA model with desirable and undesirable indicators to compute the detailed efficiencies based on both effective and invalid production frontiers. In the model, the degrees of environmental pollution and customer satisfaction are described as interval type-2 fuzzy sets. Then a method considering the optimistic-pessimistic attitude of decision makers is introduced to get solutions. For case study, the proposed DEA model is used to evaluate 20 SSCs, and analysis from time and stage perspectives are conducted to show the detailed performance. According to the results, the evaluated SSCs can be divided into four groups with different patterns, the weakness stage and period for each SSC can also be identified. The comparison and sensitivity analysis demonstrates our proposed model has more discriminating power and the ability of providing more managerial insights. Not only the sensitivity degree of a SSC to the attitude change of decision makers can be determined, but also the important indicator in different aspects for each SSC can be pointed out.

Since the “ZTE ban”, the development of the integrated circuit (IC) industry has attracted wide attention, especially in China. The performance evaluation and prediction of the IC industry is of great significance for promoting the development of this industry. In this paper, a hybrid method is proposed to study the performance of the IC industry from the perspectives of evaluation and prediction, which is unique as it evaluates the performance at past, current and future terms simultaneously. Firstly, a dynamic data envelopment analysis model is used to explore the performances of the IC industry between China and the United States from 2008 to 2017. Furthermore, in order to figure out the main sources of the inefficiency, the projection analysis is implemented based on the performance scores. Then, the grey model GM(1, 1) is employed to predicted the performance of China's IC industry from 2018 to 2022, so as to point out the progressive direction for the future development of the industry. The empirical results show that: (1) as far as performance is concerned, there is a significant gap between China and the United States in the IC industry during 2008–2017, among which the most obvious gap is occurring in “IC packaging & testing”, followed by “IC design” and “wafer fabrication”; (2) the primary cause of the low performance in China's IC industry is the redundancy of the inputs, especially in “IC packaging & testing”, and the redundancy problem of labour investment is found to be the most serious; (3) according to the predicted results, the IC industry in China will steadily increase in terms of the performance scores in general, and the performance improvement of “IC packaging & testing” is relatively obvious, while the other two categories have a slight range of growth. Finally, the policy implications of improving the performance of the IC industry are put forward.

Recommender system, famous for finding potential requirement of customers, is widely applied in many domain, such as bank, mobile, music, book and so on. We propose an integrated recommender system contains data-processing, recommendation and evaluation processed. Traditional recommendation process aimed to recognize items that are more likely to be preferred by a specific user, however, it is expensive to recommend items to users who have no buying intention. Therefore, we propose a two stage recommendation process by adopting advantages of many recommender technology. The first stage use association rules as a means of classifying customers and finding potential customers. In the second stage, CF methods are applied to realize recommendation. In experimental study, we use auto industry database to illustrate the proposed system. First, we find some implied information for the rules generated, which conforms to the observation. Second, CF method based on users’ implicit preference information to recommend.

The problem that firms usually face with is how to allocate limited funds to available projects. In this study, we develop a group decision-making approach to help managers to select optimal portfolio in which the group contains several experts who are invited to express their personal evaluations on candidate projects. The proposed approach considers not only the group intelligence, but also the consensus process of group decision making. Because of the uncertain environment of portfolio selection, especially when investing newly-established projects, the hesitant fuzzy information is considered in evaluating the performance of projects. Furthermore, the score function and deviation function of hesitant fuzzy numbers are used to depict the return and risk of the projects, respectively. In addition, the prospect theory is employed to reflect the psychological behavior of experts because they evaluate the projects relying heavily on their intuition under risk. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method and comparisons are conducted to show the advantages of the method.
