Dr. Garcia graduated in veterinary medicine from the University of São Paulo (1996) and achieved his Master's (2000) and PhD degrees (2004) in animal reproduction from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the University of São Paulo. Since 2005, he has been working as a researcher at Embrapa, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation. He is a permanent professor of the Animal Science Graduate Program (UFPA/Embrapa/UFRA) and the Animal Reproduction Graduate Program at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, University of São Paulo (FMVZ/USP). For almost 20 years, he has been addressing the thermal biology of livestock in his research, especially on beef cattle, sheep, and water buffaloes. The effects of the thermal environment on different production systems is a permanent theme in his research, with particular attention given to its consequences on reproductive efficiency and strategies to mitigate the impact of heat stress on animals. Since 2016, he has been working on precision livestock farming, developing novel automated applications for real-time monitoring of animals raised on pasture-based systems. He has experience in conducting and leading research projects with multidisciplinary and multi-institutional teams, including the interface with international institutions (USA, Italy, Portugal, and Trinidad and Tobago). Dr. Garcia is a fellow of the CNPq-National Council for Scientific and Technological Development.
