Epidemiological literature regarding the effect of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) as a risk factor for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remains inconsistent. Furthermore, it remains debatable whether NAFLD is associated with PCOS as a consequence of shared risk factors or whether PCOS contributes to NAFLD in an independent fashion. Therefore, this meta-analysis was conducted. This meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Relevant studies published before May 2017 were identified and retrieved from PubMed and Web of Science databases. The data were extracted, and the pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated. A total of 17 studies were included into the present analysis. Compared to the control group, the risk of NAFLD in the PCOS group was higher (OR = 2.25, 95% CI = 1.95–2.60). When stratified by BMI and geographic location, the results indicated that the frequency of NAFLD risk was significantly higher in obese subjects (OR = 3.01, 95% CI = 1.88–4.82), non-obese subjects (OR = 2.07, 95% CI = 1.12–3.85), subjects from Europe (OR = 2.00, 95% CI = 1.58–2.52), subjects from the Asia-Pacific Region, (OR = 2.32, 95% CI = 1.89–2.84) and subjects from America (OR = 2.96, 95% CI = 1.93–4.55). In addition, PCOS patients with hyperandrogenism (HA) had a significantly higher risk of NAFLD, compared with controls (OR = 3.31, 95% CI = 2.58–4.24). However, there was no association between PCOS patients without HA and higher risk of NAFLD (OR = 1.46; 95% CI =0.55–3.87). The results of this meta-analysis should be interpreted with caution due to the small number of observational studies and possible confounding factors. The meta-analysis results suggest that PCOS is significantly associated with high risk of NAFLD. Although this association was independent of obesity and geographic region, it might be correlated with HA.

Deploying the 5 G new radio network on the unlicensed mmWave band (NR-U) is a promising solution to meet the constantly increasing traffic demand of the cellular network. However, the coexistence issue on the unlicensed mmWave spectrum between NR-U and Wireless Gigabit (WiGig) networks becomes a significant concern. The coexistence schemes between LTE and Wi-Fi networks cannot be readily applied to support the coexistence between NR-U and WiGig networks due to the directional beamforming and propagation characteristic of the mmWave band. The directional transmission complicates the coexistence problem but opens up possibilities for increased system capacity via concurrent multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) transmission at the expense of interference management. To this end, we consider an NR-U and WiGig coexisting scenario and aim to maximize the total NR-U throughput on the unlicensed spectrum via resource allocation and inter-beam interference mitigation. The optimization problem is formulated into an integer nonlinear programming (INLP) problem and is further transformed into a many-to-one matching game for tractability. We propose a matching-based concurrent algorithm (MBCA) to solve it and the inter-beam interference is mitigated via the forbidden pairs (FPs). In comparison to the exhaustive search-based algorithm (ESA), simulation results show that FP effectively mitigates inter-beam interference and achieves near-optimal performance. The proposed algorithm also outperforms the state-of-art algorithms in existing research.

We propose a novel matching-based pilot assignment scheme to reduce the pilot contamination effect in cell-free massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems with low computational complexity. We use a many-to-many matching scheme to solve the AP selection problem so that the maximum number of UEs in a UE group equals the number of orthogonal pilots. Furthermore, orthogonal pilots are assigned to each UE group in descending order of the common serving AP ratio of UE groups. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves near-optimum performance and outperforms the existing pilot assignment schemes in terms of 95%-likely per-user throughput and computational complexity, especially in scenarios with a limited number of pilots.

Background: Studies on the association between MDM2 SNP309 (T > G) and gastric cancer have reported conflicting results. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate whether MDM2 SNP309 is associated with susceptibility and prognosis of gastric carcinoma in Chinese patients. Methods: Total of 574 gastric carcinoma cases and 574 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were included. MDM2 polymorphism was detected by PCR- RFLP and infection of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) by a validated serology test. The functionality of MDM2 SNP309, with or without H. pylori lipopolysaccharide (LPS), was examined by dual-luciferase assay. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used to evaluate survival. Additional, a meta-analysis was conducted to verity the findings. Results: MDM2 SNP309G/G genotype was associated with an increased risk of gastric carcinoma when compared with T/T genotype or T carriers (both P < 0.01), and a joint effect between MDM2 SNP309G/G and H. pylori infection was observed to intensify gastric carcinoma risk. SNP309G/G was identified as an independent marker of poor overall survival of carcinoma. In vitro, the luciferase assay further showed an increased transcriptional activity of SNP309G allele compared with SNP309T allele, and the function of polymorphism T309G in MDM2 gene promoter was intensified by H. pylori LPS. Pooled results from the meta-analysis confirmed that SNP309G/G genotype had a significantly increased risk of gastric carcinoma compared with T/T genotype or T carriers, consistent with the case–control findings. Conclusions: MDM2 SNP309G allele is associated with an increased risk and poor prognosis of gastric carcinoma in Chinese patients. Additional, there is a joint effect of MDM2 SNP309G/G allele and H. pylori infection on gastric carcinoma development, which may attribute to H. pylori LPS.
