Prof. Mbhenyane is a Dietitian, a Professor, and the Head and Research Chair of Food Environments, Nutrition and Health in the Division of Human Nutrition at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University. From 2011 to 2014, she served as a nutrition research expert on the Board of Trustees of the Institute of International Tropical Agriculture, a member of the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centres. She is a C2 NRF-rated scientist in South Africa, and she has been involved in human nutrition research at various levels, conducting the supervision of masters and doctoral research, from which more than 20 masters/doctoral students have successfully been mentored. Her research areas of interest are indigenous foods, nutrition, and the prevention of disease; food and nutrition security; and child and maternal nutrition. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented or contributed to more than 80 papers at national and international conferences.
