The most detrimental cyber attacks are usually not originated by malicious outsiders or malware but from trusted insiders. The main advantage insider attackers have over external elements is their ability to bypass security checks and remain undiscovered, this may cause serious damage to the organizational assets. This paper focuses on insider threat detection through behavioral analysis of users. User behavior is categorized as normal or malicious based on user activity. A series of events and activities are analyzed for feature selection to efficiently detect adversarial behavior. Selected feature vectors are used for model training during the implementation phase. A deep learning based approach is proposed that detects insiders with greater accuracy and low false positive rate. A rich event / user role based feature set containing Logon/Logoff events, User_role, Functional_unit etc are used for detection. The dataset used is the CMU CERT synthetic insider threat dataset r4.2. Performance of our proposed algorithm has been compared to other well-known techniques i.e. long short term Memory- convolutional neural network, random forest, long short term memory- recurrent neural network, one class support vector machine, Markov chain model, multi state long short term memory & convolutional neural network, gated recurrent unit & skipgram. The comparison proved that our novel approach produces relatively good accuracy(90.60%), precision(97%) and F1 Score (94%).

The novel dataset called Linux-APT Dataset 2024 captures Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attacks along with other latest and sophisticated payloads. Existing datasets lacks latest attacker's techniques and procedures, APTs tactics and configuration to capture maximum Linux log sources to observe the working and behaviour of an APT in a detailed manner. The environment which supported us in capturing the logs is composed of Linux machines and a centralized logging system configured appropriately to captures and detect all possible events and logs for an APT and other complex intrusion. Unlike Microsoft Windows, Linux logging system are investigated enough and usually systems relies on limited log sources but for an APT, all possible log sources should be evaluated and added to completely analyse the behaviour, trajectory, and operation of an APT. To keep the dataset up to date and realistic, recent payloads and APTs are emulated in the environment. A well-known cyber-security framework ‘MITRE ATT&CK’ is utilised to map the behaviour and operation in a generalized manner after capturing the events and logs. This dataset can be used for training and conducting a variety of experiments to build as well as design the solutions for detecting most recent intrusions and APT attacks for Linux System.

Solving a system of multivariate quadratic equations obtained through algebraic cryptanalysis is a nondeterministic polynomial time-complete problem. Owing to the trend of stream ciphers based on nonlinear update, the success of algebraic attacks has been limited to their reduced variants. On the other hand, side channel attacks (SCA), although require a continued access to the target device for capturing leakages, are a potent threat against the stream ciphers. Algebraic SCA (ASCA) combines and solves equations obtained through algebraic cryptanalysis and partial SCA of cipher implementation. ASCA is successfully being applied against block ciphers since 2009; however, there is no existing published work on ASCA against stream ciphers as per our knowledge. In this paper, we propose an idea of mounting ASCA on stream ciphers, and we demonstrated it through the application of ASCA on Trivium and Grain stream ciphers.

Kleptography is the study of pilfering secure data secretly and subliminally. The concept of inserting backdoors was introduced two decades ago by Young and Yung. However, still it is a serious threat for modern cryptography. Different studies have proved that exploiting implementation errors of cryptographic algorithms needs less effort as compared to attacking its mathematical structure. Inserting the backdoor modifies the standard method of generating public and private key pairs in such away that the public information is meaningful for the attacker. This paper presents the kleptographic attack on cryptographic algorithm based on Elliptic curves. We show the technique of implementing backdoor against Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm, Elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman key exchange scheme, Elliptic curve Digital Signature Algorithm, Elliptic curve Integrated Encryption Scheme, Elliptic curve ElGamal Encryption and Elliptic curve Qu-Vanstone implicit certificate scheme. In practical approach, backdoors are inserted in such a way that their identification is impossible by analyzing the output of an algorithm. Detection of kleptographic implementation is a complex task and very few studies can be found in this direction. We have explored the possibility of detection of malicious code inside the Elliptic curve based algorithms by using the idea of running time analysis. We have shown that by implementing strong Secretly Embedded Trapdoor with Universal Protection (SETUP) attack against Elliptic curve based algorithms, one can detect the presence of backdoor by analyzing the time difference in execution of an honest vs malicious version of code. We also modified the backdoor insertion mechanism in Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm that results in negligible time difference making it impossible for the user to detect backdoor presence.
