Alfonso Aguilar-Perera received his PhD in biological oceanography from the University of Puerto Rico in 2005. He has worked as a professor at the Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan since 2006. His research topics mainly include the following: ecology, biology, and taxonomy of fish associated with coral reefs from the southern Gulf of Mexico and the Mexican Caribbean.
