Prof. Dr. Susana I Sá is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. She received a License degree in Biology (Scientific Field) in 2000 from the Faculty of Sciences of the
University of Porto. She completed her MSc in Morphology in 2010 by the University of Porto, Faculty of Medicine, and her PhD in Neurosciences in 2011 by the University of Porto, Faculty of Medicine. She is a postgraduate with the CAJAL Certificate in Neuronal Cell Biology–Cytoskeleton and Trafficking in
2016, Bordeaux Neurocampus. Between March 2001 and December 2014, she was part of the Center of Experimental Morphology (CME-FCT Unit 121/94), from 2014 she has been a part of CINTESIS unit (reference IDB/4255/2020), and is presently part of RISE, Associated Laboratory (reference LA/P/0053/2020). She works in the areas of Medical and Health Sciences with an emphasis on Basic Medicine with an emphasis on neuroscience. Her interests include the hypothalamus, steroid receptors, sexual behavior, ovarian hormones, synapses, and metabolic hormones. She has been increasing her interest in the effects of medical and recreative pharmaceuticals on mood and cognition, both with a behavioral as well as neurochemical approach, namely by studying the neurochemical and neurophysiological effects in the components of the limbic system.
