Deep learning achieves unprecedented success involves many fields, whereas the high requirement of memory and time efficiency tolerance have been the intractable challenges for a long time. On the other hand, quantum computing shows its superiorities in some computation problems owing to its intrinsic properties of superposition and entanglement, which may provide a new path to settle these issues. In this paper, a quantum deep convolutional neural network (QDCNN) model based on the quantum parameterized circuit for image recognition is investigated. In analogy to the classical deep convolutional neural network (DCNN), the architecture that a sequence of quantum convolutional layers followed by a quantum classified layer is illustrated. Inspired by the variational quantum algorithms, a quantum–classical hybrid training scheme is demonstrated for the parameter updating in the QDCNN. The network complexity analysis indicates the proposed model provides the exponential acceleration comparing with the classical counterpart. Furthermore, the MNIST and GTSRB datasets are employed to numerical simulation and the quantitative experimental results verify the feasibility and validity.

Light encodes multidimensional information, such as intensity, polarization, and spectrum. Traditional extraction of this light information requires discrete optical components by subdividing the detection area into many “one-to-one” functional pixels. The broadband photodetection of high-dimensional optical information with a single integrated on-chip detector is highly sought after, yet it poses significant challenges. In this study, we employ a metasurface-assisted graphene photodetector, enabling to simultaneously detect and differentiate various polarization states and wavelengths of broadband light (1-8 μm) at the wavelength prediction accuracy of 0.5 μm. The bipolar polarizability empowered by this design allows to decouple multidimensional information (encompassing polarization and wavelength), which can be achieved by encoding vectorial photocurrents with varying polarities and amplitudes. Furthermore, cooperative multiport metasurfaces are adopted and boosted by machine learning techniques. It enables precise spin-wavelength differentiation over an extremely broad wavelength range (1-8 μm). Our innovation offers a recipe for highly compact and high-dimensional spectral-polarization co-detection.

Quantum machine learning (QML) is an emerging research field, which is devoted to devising and implementing quantum algorithms that could enable machine learning faster than that of classical computers. In this paper, a hierarchic quantum mechanics-based framework is investigated to implement both the feature extraction and classification in the electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. Firstly, the classical EEG signal dataset is prepared as a quantum state while the sign of the data point is preserved. The prepared quantum state is then evolved with the quantum wavelet packet transformation (QWPT) and the wavelet packet energy entropy (WPEE) feature is extracted as the input of the subsequent quantum classifier. We finally propose the improved quantum support vector machine with the arbitrary nonlinear kernel, which is employed to predict the label of the EEG signal. The complexity analysis indicates that the proposed framework provides exponential speedup over the same structured classical counterpart. Besides, the quantitative experimental results verify the feasibility and validity.
