Dr. Sunil V. Gaikwad is currently working as a researcher at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University, Bratislava, under the supervision of Andrej Bohác, on the synthesis of biologically active compounds to suppress life-threatening complications of diabetes and to inhibit the growth of tumours. Sunil has also worked in the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, as a Research Associate under the supervision of Dr. Ravindar Kontham (2019–2020) and as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry in Dr D. Y. Patil Arts, Commerce & Science Women's College, Pimpri, Pune, Maharashtra, India, affiliated to S. P. Pune University, Pune (2021–2022). He completed his Master's degree (Organic Chemistry) in the Department of Chemistry, SPPU, Pune, Maharashtra (India), and his PhD. (2019) in Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. P. D. Lokhande from Savitribai Phule Pune University. Sunil has also worked as an Erasmus Mundus: Euphrates Scholarship Ph.D. Exchange Scholar in Santiago de Compostela, Spain (2015–2017), under the supervision of Prof. Antonio Mourino. His research area involves the development of novel methodology for the synthesis of bioactive molecules and total synthesis of natural products.
