Sten Ternström is Professor of Music Acoustics and Voice Acoustics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. His research interests center on technical aspects of human voice, in speech and in singing. This includes researching and implementing measurements of voice, usually for clinical purposes. Recently his primary research topic has been how to account for the great variability in voices, by applying voice mapping to combinations of physical metrics. Sten Ternström also likes to stay current with acoustics and sound processing for music and audio, and teaches several courses on those topics. His PhD thesis (1989) was on the acoustics of choir singing.
