I am a biochemist (1996); I have a Ph.D. degree (2003) from the University of Concepción (Chile) sponsored by the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research of Mainz (MPI-P). Through a DAAD fellowship, I spent 3 years at the MPI-P, where I worked with G. Wegner. I have two postdocs at the Center for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research in Materials (CIMAT) of the University of Chile and the Max Planck Institute of Colloid and Interface Science. I am an honorary research fellow at DAAD, Germany. I am the author of 63 publications: 53 articles (51 ISI) and 13 book chapters. I am the inventor of the following patents: no. WO2017075730A1 awarded to the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI), PCT/CL2016/050058, International Publication no. WO 2017075730A1, and US Patent no. US 11,256,839 B2. I have participated in 100 (37 national and 63 international) conferences, and I have received an invitation to give 57 lectures. I have been involved in 41 projects, acting as a responsible researcher (17), principal researcher (1), deputy director (2), co-researcher (20), and sponsoring teacher (1). My main research is the “Synthesis of functionalized polymer for biomedical applications”. Other associated lines of research are as follows: • Bio-related materials and biomineralization; • The classical and non-classical crystallization theory of minerals; • Hybrid microparticle encapsulation and photothermal therapy; • Polymeric adjuvants for vaccines.
