β-glucuronidase is a lysosomal glycosidase enzyme which catalyzes the extracellular matrix of cancer and normal cells and the glycosaminoglycans of the cell membrane, which is important for cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. Liver cancer, colon carcinoma, and neoplasm bladder are triggered by the increase of the level of β-glucuronidase activity. The most valuable structures are indole and oxadiazole which has gain immense attention because of its pharmacological behavior and display many biological properties. Twenty-two (1–22) analogs of indole based oxadiazole were synthesized and screened for their inhibitory potential against β-glucuronidase. Majority of the compounds showed potent inhibitory potential with IC50 values ranging between 0.9 ± 0.01 to 46.4 ± 0.9 µM, under positive control of standard drug d-saccharic acid 1,4 lactone (IC50 = 48.1 ± 1.2 µM). Structural activity relationship (SAR) has been established for all synthesized compounds. To shed light on molecular interactions between the synthesized compounds and β-glucuronidase, 1, 4, and 6 compounds were docked into the active binding site of β-glucuronidase. The obtained results showed that this binding is thermodynamically favorable and β-glucuronidase inhibition of the selected compounds increases with the number of hydrogen bonding established in selected compound-β-glucuronidase complexes.

A group of compounds containing pyran, pyrazole, and pyranopyrazole were synthesized (24) using a facile and convenient protocol. The structure of the synthesized compounds was elucidated by spectroscopic and elemental analysis. In vitro antimicrobial evaluation was also performed for all synthesized derivatives against human pathogenic bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus subtilis using chloramphenicol as a reference. It was depicted that compounds 3d, 4b displayed a high degree of inhibition against Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. Compounds 2d, 4f and 2d, 4e, 4f, and 4e had high inhibition effects against Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively. The molecular docking study was performed against S. aureus bacteria to rationalize the binding affinities and the feasible modes of interaction with the active site of tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase. It was found that the synthesized compounds were well fit into the binding site of tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase. The obtained results were in good accordance with the experimental data. The data obtained were promising candidates for further development of novel heterocyclic scaffolds as therapeutics with high efficacy biomedical precursors.

Melamine resins were used as 50-μm-thick fire retardant coatings for polypropylene (PP). Preceding deposition, low-pressure plasma polymer films of allyl alcohol were coated onto PP to improve the adhesion between PP and melamine resin coatings. The efficiency of such fire retardant coatings was confirmed by flame tests. The plasma-deposited polymer and the dip-coated melamine resin films were characterized by Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The adhesion of coatings was measured using a 90° peel test with a doubled-faced adhesive tape. To detect the locus of failure, the peeled layer surfaces were inspected using optical microscopy and XPS. Thermal properties of PP thick melamine resin-coated films were analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis.

Electropolymerization and deposition of poly(salicylic acid-co-N-methylaniline) copolymer, poly(SA-co-NMA) onto platinum electrode was studied using cyclic voltammetry in an acidic medium under inert conditions at various reaction factors. The mechanism of the electropolymerizaion reaction was proposed and the apparent activation energy (Eapp) was determined. The deposited polymer film was characterized using different spectral tools such as UV spectroscopy, IR, 1HNMR, X-ray, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis, the spectral data for poly(salicylic acid) PSA and poly(N-methylaniline) PNMA were also given for comparison. The electropolymerized co-polymer was collected from the Pt-surface then it has been investigated as a corrosion inhibitor. An open circuit potential method (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements and polarization techniques were used to study the application and the efficiency of the deposited copolymer film as corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in an acidic environment pH = 2.
