Dr. Heng Choon (Oliver) Chan

Heng Choon (Oliver) Chan, PhD, is an associate professor of criminology in the Department of Social Policy, Sociology, and Criminology at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. Dr. Chan is listed among the Top 2% of the most highly cited scientists in the world (in the sub-fields of criminology, legal and forensic medicine, and social sciences) based on the metrics compiled by Stanford University (October 2023). Importantly, he is ranked Top 0.6% in the sub-field of criminology. His research focuses on sexual homicide, sexual and violent offending, stalking behavior, psycho-criminology, and Asian criminology and he has published extensively on these topics. Some of his recent work has appeared in the Journal of Criminal Justice, Sexual Abuse, Aggression and Violent Behavior, Trauma, Violence, & Abuse, Forensic Science International, Criminal Behaviour and Mental Health, and Behavioral Sciences & the Law.
