Prof. Dr. Christian Zidorn studied Pharmacy at the University of Düsseldorf/Germany and became a registered pharmacist in 1995. From 1995 to 1998, he pursued PhD studies in Pharmacognosy in the group of Professor Hermann Stuppner at the University of Innsbruck/Austria. After receiving his Dr. rer. nat. degree in 1998, he completed postdoctoral research in the Plant Extracts Research Unit of Crop & Food in Dunedin/New Zealand from 2000 to 2001 under the supervision of Dr. Nigel B. Perry. After returning to Innsbruck, he completed habilitations (state doctorates) in Pharmacognosy (2003) and Botany (2007). From 2010 to 2013, he worked in the group of Dr. Anna Lönnroth in Brussels/Belgium as a scientific officer in the field of infectious diseases with the European Commission; here, he was mainly responsible for FP7 collaborative projects in the fields of antimicrobial resistance and emerging epidemics. After again working as an associate professor at the University of Innsbruck and a step-in professorship at the University of Kiel/Germany, he studied marine natural compounds as a Marie Curie IEF grant holder at the CNR − Istituto di Chimica Biomolecolare in Pozzuoli, Italy, in the group of Professor Margherita Gavagnin. Since April 2016, Professor Zidorn has been leading the Department of Pharmaceutical Biology of the Institute of Pharmacy at Kiel University/Germany. His research interests include phytochemistry, chemo¬systematics, botanical systematics, and chemical ecology.
